In sports we are always told to hustle well now Roto Grip is providing a ball that will do just that on the lanes. The Roto Grip Hustle Au was designed to be different. This ball takes a medium RG/ low differential core and combines it with the VTC-P18 Pearl Reactive coverstock to produce a ball that increases traction while storing energy when facing light oil conditions while still offering a break on the backend.

Color: Gold/Light Gold
All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown
Coverstock: VTC-P18 Pearl Reactive
Core: Hustle (14#-16#) (Lightbulb core for 13# & 12# and a puck core for 11# & 10#)
Ball Finish: 1500-grit Polished
RG: 2.53 (15# ball)
Differential: 0.030 (15# ball)
Recommended Lane Condition: Light to Medium Oil

Ball Review:
The Hustles will be a great option on those lower to medium volume oil patterns or transitioned lanes where the fronts have gone away.
The Hybrid will be a smoother more controllable reaction than the pearl whereas the latter will provide cleaner/more angular motion downlane.
I did a pin down layout on the hybrid as I would want that as my first go to ball to keep my angles in front of me. Plus the solid within the hybrid allows this additional control.
On the 2 pearls I placed a pin down and pin up on each to see the different shot shapes. With the pin down compared to the hybrid I saw a lot more length and responsiveness downlane than the hybrid. With the pin up pearl compared to the pin down pearl there was definitely a lot more length and angle to that ball.
Wtih each of the 3 new Hustles there will be a step down from each ball - Hybrid to pin down pearl to pin up pearl. Those who were a fan of the previously released Hustles or those looking for a weaker/cleaner piece in their arsenal the newly released Hustles will be a great option to choose from.

LANE CONDITION

Length:41

Volume:Medium

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS

COMMENTS

Cover: VTC-H18â„¢ Pearl Reactive
Weightblock: Hustleâ„¢ Core (Symmetrical)
Finish: 1500 Polished
RG: 2.53
Differential: 0.030

Me:
Right-Handed Tweener
Speed: 12-13 mph
Rev Rate: 315
PAP: 4 7/8 Right 3/8 Up

Ball Layout: Pin Up and Right of Ring 65 X 4 1/8 X 35

The New Hustle AU gives a unique motion in the HP1 line. The Polished Pearl version of the VTC-P18â„¢ cover is further affected by the chosen 2 tone gold color to create a smoother back-end motion in a somewhat cleaner version of this ball.

The Hustle Ink despite its solid cover was a very clean ball that was quick off the spot. It created great angle into the pins and was one of the most versatile balls on the market. The AU is much smoother and a touch earlier despite its pearl cover. This ball is amazing at smoothing out difficult lane patterns. It is clean enough to get through burned up lane heads but gives you enough mid-lane motion to avoid excessive carrydown. This ball is a must have to tournament patterns and high friction house shots.

The Hustle AU is a great addition to the Hustle line. Gives you more length than the other Hustles and with the layout I used 5 x 3.5 x 30 the AU keeps me out of trouble when the lanes breakdown and other balls are too strong in my lineup. If you're looking for a low end ball to add to your bag this is a great choice! Available at your local pro shop

This new pearl Hustle is the most skid/flip of any other current Hustle, and once again has packed a lot of performance in a low price point ball. These newer pearl Hustles seem slightly weaker than their previously released counterparts and I am very happy to see that. I see this ball being great for when the lanes start hooking in the front or when bowling on very worn lane surfaces.

Round Holes No Grips Proshop – Ball Review

Ball:  Rotogrip Hustle Au
Layout:  5x4x1
Surface:  Box Finish
Lane Condition:  THS mediumvolume
Tester:  Andrew
Average:  230

When this one showed up on the new release list, I couldn’t wait to drill it up.  I immediately loved the Hustle HYB.  The Hustle HYB provided so much bang for the buck.  I expected nothing less from the Hustle Au.  I punched mine up 5x4x1 and left it box finish which is unusual for me.  I typically alter the surface of every polished ball before I throw it.  I’ve already put about 40 games on the ball in the last 3 weeks in practice, leagues and tournaments.

I thought with this layout that I might run into some uncontrollable motion down lane, but I haven’t seen that motion yet.  The Hustle Au is strong off the friction but gets up the lane well.  It lets me stay alittle further right when the lanes are hooking without jerking the moment it encounters friction.  I would definitely recommend the Hustle Au as the ball for lighter oil chose for speed dominant players and a great medium oil choice for slower speed or rev dominant players.  I’ll be posting a video to our YouTube account soon.

Orientation:  Right Handed
Rev Rate:  375 RPM
Speed:  16-17 MPH
PAP:  4 5/8 straight across

Location:  Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO
Pattern:  High Volume THS
Dual Angle:  5 ½, 4, 4

Oh boy more HUSTLES!  I love my Hustle INK and I’m always looking for the next best shape.  Roto Grip changed the cover to a pearl and I love the result.  The Hustle AU looks great, but I love the reaction more!  It’s cleaner than the Ink with the same great Hustle motion!  Perfect ball for friction or late in the day transition.

The Roto Grip Hustle Au is one of the latest balls in the HP1 category. The 2 tone gold pearl VTC-P18 cover wraps around the 2.53 Rg, 0.030 diff Hustle core in 15lb weights. THe Au comes from the factory polished to a 1500 grit finish, which is fairly standard for pearl balls coming out of Utah.

This is the first time that I have drilled one of the Hustle line of balls. I used a 4.5” pin with a 2.5” pin buffer. Out of the box compared to a polished Storm Black pearl Match Up (Storm step #2), the Hustle starts to pick up the roll a little sooner (closer to what I remember of the Match pearl), and is less responsive to the dry boards than the Black Pearl. I can see why other people who have used these balls along side of !Q tours, say they are like the !Q’s little brother. When compared to my !Q Tour Emerald (same layout), on fresh backends, the Hustle is about a 2-1 move left to try and find a slightly straighter trajectory through the fronts, and to compensate for the less board coverage. As the backends start to get some lineage, the Hustle sees this carrydown much more than the stronger response to friction cover that is on the Emerald. I ended up 5-3 left of where I was standing with the Emerald, after about 5 games of bowling. A great advantage that I see with the Hustle Au is even though it sees carrydown more than higher responsive balls, I can still get a good reaction without the ball being over-under. I can just move and find the friction needed to get the ball to read correctly.

To close, the Hustle Au has been a nice addition to use on medium-dry, to drier conditions, that still requires some angle that my urethane covered balls don’t provide. I’m glad I finally drilled a Hustle, and may see a hustle Ink in my future, thanks to this ball. Thank you for taking the time to read my review of the Hustle Au from Roto Grip. Own It!

Review:
The New Roto Grip Hustle AU is a very good choice for dry lanes or the burn. The Gold Hustle AU, which I assume is the nomenclature for gold used on the periodic table, is a great looking ball. The AU goes much farther down the lane than my Hustle Ink but has more backend. It is almost a lower hook version of the IQ Envy with a bit more backend. The Core seems to be driller friendly and the more you increase pin to pap distances you see more length on the lane.  I would consider the Hustle AU a low hook ball for me but there are times I need one in my bag especially one that has the hit that this new AU gives me. I have some very good youth bowlers with slow speed that I loaned mine to and they really liked this ball as well as folks who like to play up the boards.
The Hustle line has always intrigued me because of the cover stock choices at a basically an entry level price point. I think this is a performance upgrade most other brands do not provide. I really like the backend on this Gold Pearl and I have not seen any over/under problems.  This AU digs the corner pins out very well.  I believe high rev bowlers, slower speeds or people bowling on dryer lanes will have a winner with the Hustle AU. I think shorter patterns will also be a good place for the AU especially with shorter pin to pap measurements for control.

Summary:
The Hustle AU gets easy length with a nice backend.
This is a great looking ball.
This is a very good ball choice for dryer lanes.

Stats in profile - PBA50 member - 16.5 mph-300 rev rate.
I laid out the Hustle Au with a 4" pin to pap and a 30* VAL drilling angle. I left it box finish, then touched it some with a used 2000 abralon pad to change the length downlane.
The AU is controllable and let me stay close to the friction both on the outsides of the pattern and also laid off some on shorter patterns. I had a tough time getting the corners out if there was carrydown or the pattern was longer than 38'. This should be good for heavy handed players looking to stay more to the right instead of urethane. Straighter players will want closed down angles to get some motion to improve carry with it.

Drilled with pin above ring, stacked, which gives me about a 4X3 layout. I’ve started drilling nearly all my stuff like this, and just using coverstock/surface changes to build my reaction differences.

Needed a “step down” ball from my IQ Emerald. Tried an Electrify, but it was still too much. Did some more checking, and decided on the Hustle AU.

While both the IQ Emerald and Electrify are considered clean, they really don’t compare to the AU. It is really, really CLEAN.

On our freshly cut and resurfaced wood lanes, there really is no pull or tug room available. If you try to go up the lanes, the ball starts early, so everything has to be a swing shot, and the AU plays this shot with ease, having more push than any of my other stuff, but still having the guts to make it back from the breakpoint.

On the fresh, I had to line up on 31 with my feet, and target 13-14 at the arrows, but the ball consistently cleared the heads, held the line, read the breakpoint, and finished with plenty of “pop” at the pins.

Not a real technical review, but more of a comparison. The AU is definitely cleaner than either the IQ Emerald or the Electrify, and all were left at OOB finish.

For those who like lower RG, lower diff pearls, the AU would probably be great for you on burned up or drier house shots.
