Ball Review:
The Hustles will be a great option on those lower to medium volume oil patterns or transitioned lanes where the fronts have gone away.
The Hybrid will be a smoother more controllable reaction than the pearl whereas the latter will provide cleaner/more angular motion downlane.
I did a pin down layout on the hybrid as I would want that as my first go to ball to keep my angles in front of me. Plus the solid within the hybrid allows this additional control.
On the 2 pearls I placed a pin down and pin up on each to see the different shot shapes. With the pin down compared to the hybrid I saw a lot more length and responsiveness downlane than the hybrid. With the pin up pearl compared to the pin down pearl there was definitely a lot more length and angle to that ball.
Wtih each of the 3 new Hustles there will be a step down from each ball - Hybrid to pin down pearl to pin up pearl. Those who were a fan of the previously released Hustles or those looking for a weaker/cleaner piece in their arsenal the newly released Hustles will be a great option to choose from.

The Hustle AU is a great addition to the Hustle line. Gives you more length than the other Hustles and with the layout I used 5 x 3.5 x 30 the AU keeps me out of trouble when the lanes breakdown and other balls are too strong in my lineup. If you're looking for a low end ball to add to your bag this is a great choice! Available at your local pro shop

When this one showed up on the new release list, I couldn’t wait to drill it up.  I immediately loved the Hustle HYB.  The Hustle HYB provided so much bang for the buck.  I expected nothing less from the Hustle Au.  I punched mine up 5x4x1 and left it box finish which is unusual for me.  I typically alter the surface of every polished ball before I throw it.  I’ve already put about 40 games on the ball in the last 3 weeks in practice, leagues and tournaments. 

I thought with this layout that I might run into some uncontrollable motion down lane, but I haven’t seen that motion yet.  The Hustle Au is strong off the friction but gets up the lane well.  It lets me stay alittle further right when the lanes are hooking without jerking the moment it encounters friction.  I would definitely recommend the Hustle Au as the ball for lighter oil chose for speed dominant players and a great medium oil choice for slower speed or rev dominant players.  I’ll be posting a video to our YouTube account soon.

The Roto Grip Hustle Au is one of the latest balls in the HP1 category. The 2 tone gold pearl VTC-P18 cover wraps around the 2.53 Rg, 0.030 diff Hustle core in 15lb weights. THe Au comes from the factory polished to a 1500 grit finish, which is fairly standard for pearl balls coming out of Utah.

This is the first time that I have drilled one of the Hustle line of balls. I used a 4.5” pin with a 2.5” pin buffer. Out of the box compared to a polished Storm Black pearl Match Up (Storm step #2), the Hustle starts to pick up the roll a little sooner (closer to what I remember of the Match pearl), and is less responsive to the dry boards than the Black Pearl. I can see why other people who have used these balls along side of !Q tours, say they are like the !Q’s little brother. When compared to my !Q Tour Emerald (same layout), on fresh backends, the Hustle is about a 2-1 move left to try and find a slightly straighter trajectory through the fronts, and to compensate for the less board coverage. As the backends start to get some lineage, the Hustle sees this carrydown much more than the stronger response to friction cover that is on the Emerald. I ended up 5-3 left of where I was standing with the Emerald, after about 5 games of bowling. A great advantage that I see with the Hustle Au is even though it sees carrydown more than higher responsive balls, I can still get a good reaction without the ball being over-under. I can just move and find the friction needed to get the ball to read correctly.

To close, the Hustle Au has been a nice addition to use on medium-dry, to drier conditions, that still requires some angle that my urethane covered balls don’t provide. I’m glad I finally drilled a Hustle, and may see a hustle Ink in my future, thanks to this ball. Thank you for taking the time to read my review of the Hustle Au from Roto Grip. Own It!

I laid out the Hustle Au with a 4" pin to pap and a 30* VAL drilling angle. I left it box finish, then touched it some with a used 2000 abralon pad to change the length downlane.
The AU is controllable and let me stay close to the friction both on the outsides of the pattern and also laid off some on shorter patterns. I had a tough time getting the corners out if there was carrydown or the pattern was longer than 38'. This should be good for heavy handed players looking to stay more to the right instead of urethane. Straighter players will want closed down angles to get some motion to improve carry with it.
