A Ball for the Dryer/Lighter Conditions/Shorter Patterns.  A must ball for your tournament arsenal.  On the shorter patterns reads the lands without over reacting.  Smooth and Predictable.

Retrothane coverstock is a hit.  The grenade is a great ball for lighter oil patterns and dryer areas to the outside part of the lane.  The photon core that has been so successful in the Dark Star and Riot is exactly what the coverstock  needed to excel in this newly reintroduced urethane market.  It allows the ball to drive through the pins and maintain its entry angle even after deflection occurs from the pins.  Entry angle is still created from playing a more outside line and the balls breakpoint is more towards the middle of the lane (30 to 35 foot mark)

This ball takes extremely well to surface changes allowing for players of many styles to enjoy.  Anyone who wants to play up the boards and near the outside part of the lane as it starts to breakdown will enjoy using this ball most.  Players with a higher rev rate will enjoy the controllable motion of this urethane cover and also the power created by the photon core.  Whether or not your using this ball as your spare of dry lane ball, you will love the predictable move and controllable motion.

Drilled this ball with a stand by drill for me 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 pin under fingers.
This ball does what it is advertised to do. It is very controllable on drier lanes. With the core carry will not be a problem. IT is a great mix of old school and new era. A must for any tournament bowler or any on that needs extra control on drier or short patterns

Likes: Just as stated, this ball is for lighter conditions and situations where control of the pocket is at a premium.
I drilled this one with the pin above the bridge, and the cg just above the midline, kicked out enough to put the virtual MB 2 inches right of my thumbhole towards the VAL. This left the pin around 4 1/2 from my pap and the cg about 2 inches from my pap. Translated into dual angle terminology, this would be a 40 X 4 1/2 X 60. Also put an x-hole on the midline, 2 inches past the val to increase the dynamics slightly.

 

 All I can say is smooth, smooth, SMOOTH! Ball never over-reacts, but the volume here is almost too much, so accuracy is at a premium, but the carry percentage is high. Get this one close to the pocket in a roll and it just works.



Dislikes: Ball is good, but I think it could've used a stronger weightblock to compliment the urethane cover better for todays heavier lane oil conditions.
 I realize this ball was designed to be used when the lanes are dry/drier, but it would really be nice to have this much control with a bit more power, that's what urethane is for, right?

Likes: Smooth, hits like a feight train. Exceptional carry.


Dislikes: Didn't get one sooner, other than that, no dislikes.

 


 

 Ok, so I buy way too much stuff on e-bay. But when I found a two ball package with a grenade and a golden globe, who could resist? I plugged both balls and redrilled them to my span/pitches, (virtually same holes), keeping the drilling intact. The grenade is basically label leverage with thumb weight. I added a weighthole in the thumb positive quadrant to raise the bowtie. with no prior practice, went out to the lanes and bowled position round.

First game: 237. Second: 279, third: 267 for a 783 series/261 avg. Yeah, we took first. My highest series with urethane ever. What is your excuse for not having a urethane ball in the bag?

Likes:in 1990, worked for roto-grip and vinny yettito. at that time we were reintroducing the black grenade. when roto came out with a new version, i happened to be looking for a urethane ball. well, the rest is history!!! great piece of equipment, and flares more than the original!!! thanks roto-grip!!!
