After drilling this ball it has made a great addition to the collection. The sonic x solid is a ball for med. to dry and works great through the heads. It didn't give early roll or a hugh arc on freshly stripped backends. I would recommend this ball to any twisters looking to get a ball down the lane in the dry with consistence backend reaction.

I drilled one of these with the 3" pin drilling and box surface. This ball is definitely a "must have" ball. It's perfect for the medium to dry lane sufaces. Cleared the first 25' really well and made a very nice transition to the dry.

For me, I could see this ball with this layout matching up well with PBA patterns A, E & any "league shot". It's not lacking in the hitting department either.

THE BEST DRY LANE BALL ON THE MARKET TODAY!!!!!!

Energy retention is the awesome. This ball does nothing but get down the lane cleanly. It hits harder than any dry lane I have seen.  I can line up in the dirt and stay there all night.  It makes a jumpy wet / dry condition look like an easy wall. This is a must have!!!!!!

I have drilled 2 one is OTL the other is 5 x 4.  Both roll fantastically. These with the Sonic Pearl will be my main arsenal this season.

After consulting with Roger N. at Rotogrip about setting up a ball for a drier lane condition. Here is what we came up with;
A Sonic X solid with a 2-3 in. pin.
The drilling was a stack on the gripline with the pin above the fingers.
We figured that with this combination it would get thru the front part of the lane and give a controlled backend reaction.

This setup did exactly what we wanted. It will be used for drier or toasted lane conditions. We went with the solid over the pearlized version simply because of my preference(I've had more success with solids over pearlized covers).
If someone thinks this is for the big flood they will be sorrly mistaken.
When set up/ and used on the right conditions you will be a happy camper.
You might not use this ball all that much but it can be a valuable addition to your ball arsenal.
free agency it is until i get a better offer.   LMAO

Ok after the first impression, here goes my review of the dry wonders.

Specs: 16Lbs 2-3" pin out, drilled 4x4 stacked, topweight forgotten.

I have used this ball on various shots and lane types.  For me in league ranging from fresh horizontal wet/dry with screaming backends to reverse block patterns to spotty nightmares.  This ball reacts the same for me on wood as well as synthetic lanes.

On the horizontal wet/dry with screaming backs this ball is good for the first two games before it over unders the third game.  Too strong to point the ball at the pocket, too weak to belly the ball out.

On the spotty conditions, like second shift short oil with some carrydown on wood lanes type, this ball is very nice, but requires accuracy to get the ball to the pocket.  Must be careful with target placement or you will have over under all night here too.

I found this ball to work well on dry shots and reverse blocked patterns.  I can belly the ball all night long in the dry and not have to worry about over reactions.  This ball moves very even, smooth, controllable, and hits hard like a heavy oiler will.

Overall for this is a good dry lane ball like it's supposed to be.  I need to find dry to use it properly, but if the oil is spotty or still on the lanes somewhere, I need to go to another ball or I'll the struggle the remainder of the evening.

In the old days people used to cut wood with axes.....................now and days...............they just have Executioners do it for them!

Pin_Krusher IS a serious threat to modern day bowling wood as we know it today.

15 lb.   Stacked drilling   Box finish

Finally I found a ball for lighter to medium oil that still hits very hard.  I tend to get a lot on the ball, so playing on the right side is out of the question, most of the time.  With this ball, I can still rev it up and play the right side of the lane.  Smooth reacting with strong hitting power.  Great ball for medium to lighter oil.  It does not like carry down though, but what ball does.  For heavy handed players, do not hesitate to max this one out.  You will be pleasantly surprised.  Great ball, great price.

15# 3-4 pin 3oz top.

Why buy a dry lane ball just to drill up strong?A strong drilling will make any ball hook on true dry lanes, even a blue dot.
So I drilled this one up for its intended purpose DRY LANES.I laid it out with a 6" High pin from pap (pin above middle finger for me) and the core at a 60 degree angle from pap,This is a 6"x60 degree pretty much off of the drill sheet I just put the core @ this angle because it works well for me.I left it with an out of box finish and proceeded to go find some dry lanes.Well I was running late and didn't find no dry lanes before league so I had to wait till after league.I used this ball after about 3 games of league and 6 pot games witch would actually equate to a 100 or so games if you counted each individuals games by each person.any ways enough rambling back to the ball,I started off in my base position (slide 32 over 21 out to 7 and the ball went dead straight. So I moved 10 right with my feet and five with my target and the ball moved a little bit about 3 boards still didn't hit pocket. After I lined up I was 15 boards right of my starting position. The ball has excellent length (drilling) and a small hook on the back and a real good pop through the pins.I think this is actually a good dry lane ball.

Great ball when you need to play tight and direct. This is a ball i have great success on all sport conditions. Dan Smith layed this one out to clear the mid lane when they start to fry . Clears them and holds pocket all day long . Great ball as usual from Roto Grip. But what would you expect from a bowlers company...Thanks Roger, Hank, and Dan.

See profile for more info......

This ball isn't going to see a TON of action, but I know it's there and it's a great feeling !  At the advice of Roger I'd drilled this ball fairly strong at 4x4, no weight hole needed, box condition.

When the track is gone,...bingo! When the heads are getting burned....swing it a bit, ...bingo again !

This ball can also be used on an extreme wet/dry condition, up to medium oil from an outside line.

For a ball that only flares about an inch or so, the hit is typical ROTO !

I do NOT concern myself with drier conditions anymore!  Great thru the heads, and nice arc at the back, never flippy off the dry, exactly what it was designed for ! Thanks RG !

I drilled my Sonic Solid with a 4.5x4 drill with the mb in the b position. This ball skids clean thru heads and is a nice smooooooth arc to the pins . Great dry ball. And it hits pretty darn hard too. When my Boom starts going to early, I can switch to the solid with confidence. its about 5-10 boards mellower than the Boom. Great addition to any arsenal. Go Buy ONE!

See my profile for additional info...

Ball: 15lbs. 2oz.
Topwgt:1.2oz.
Drilling: 4x4, no wgt hole

This Sonic, my second by the way, is smooth as silk....easy rolling.....and gentle arcing by nature. This particular ball is drilled much stronger than my first. By throwing this ball, I discovered that I have a lot more hand than I thought I had. This ball reacts smoothly on even the driest of conditions. (well my idea of dry, anyway) But the backend is so strong,I am actually able to use this ball on some medium conditions as well. I can't use this one in the track area. It's too strong, but the Sonic I have drilled, pin over the bridge with a 1" kick right of the centerline.....I can play in the track, all day!!
This is a very consistent ball, easy to read, and great with carry. A must have for every arsenal. So far I've only used it on synthetics, and guardian/composite on a typical house shot. Can't wait to try it at a tournament
Great job RotoGrip. Keep'em coming.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

Just picked this up on Ebay for $31.35 shipped, best money I've spent in a while.

My specs in profile.

Specs:
14# 4oz, 3oz top.

Drilled: 45°
Pin; up 3 1/8", right 3/4", 3 5/8" to PAP
MB; down 3 1/2", right 2 3/4", 4 3/4" to PAP
Weight hole; 1/2" past VAL down 1 3/8"

Let me start by saying I am very impressed with this ball. It glides through the drier with no effort at all yet has a great read of the break point.

Played on a fresh Med-Med/Hvy Cristmas tree pattern that is flat to 15' then tapers to 17-23 @ 38' buffed out to 44'.

For comparision I also rolled a few frames with my X-Factor (3 9/16" pin X 4 1/4" MB 40°) and Phenom Unleashed (4 1/4" pin X 4" MB 35°). With the same release I had to play 12 @ arrow with my X-Factor. 17 @ arrows with my Unleashed, and straight up 5 with my Sonic to have the same break point (5). The Sonic stayed dead straight to the break point and made an aggresive  but controlled arc to the pocket. I played this line for 6 games before having to make a 1 board adjustment because I started leaving 4 and 9 pins only left 3 10s in 8 games. I never expected this ball to have such great carry and drive through the pocket.

I will never doubt how well a entry level ball can perform again, because this ball has high performance results for a low budget price. Makes me want to go get a Super Sonic and Sonic Boom.

My friend has one of these and i bowled with it last night after my epx sucked all the oil up lol.  But once the lanes got to medium/light-light, this ball tore it up.  It matched up what my epx was doing 15 games previous.  The pin action was unbelievable, It was way more than i ever expected out of this ball.  Great ball. for light-light meduim oil, i would give this ball a 8.5.
