- Description: Featuring the same proven, late-rolling Neutron core utilized in both the Rising Star and Shooting Star, the Shatter is a model of consistency, producing good length and strong motion down-lane.
The 51ML pearl reactive coverstock was created to go toe-to-toe with medium to lighter oil conditions. This reliable shell allows the ball to easily clear the front part of the lane and provide you with more stored energy down-lane.
The Shatter produces more length and backend on medium to lighter oil conditions than the Rising Star and Shooting star, creating the perfect combination when paired with either of its predecessors.

Ball specs – 15 lbs 2 oz, 2.54 top weight, 2 3/4-inch pin.

The Shatter, which is a polished pearl, was drilled using the dual angle method.  The layout is a 4 inch pin, 70-degree drill angle and a 30-degree VAL angle.  An x-hole was not needed.  Using Storm’s layout terminology the layout would be 4  by 4 7/8 with a 2 inch pin buffer.  The cover was left OOB which is 1500 polished. 

Just like the prior releases at this price point (Shooting Star and Rising Star) the Shatter’s strength surprised me.  But the Shatter’s strength is all in the backend of the lane.  The pattern bowled on was a 41 foot, 24 micro-liter broken down house condition.  I had used a Defiant Edge and Berserk earlier and was playing around 22 with them.  With the HP2 Shatter I was able to move my feet and target slightly right and send it.  The Shatter was extremely clean through the fronts on the broken down pattern.  When the Shatter made its move to the pocket is was quick and angular.  Hit and carry percentage were both very good.

This ball has one of the best two tone color combinations out there. The sky blue/emerald looks sharp not only displayed, but on the lanes as well.  This ball I was very excited to throw. I personally love the Shooting Star and Rising Star, and could not wait to see what the pearl Shatter would provide in the HP2 lineup.  I drilled the Shatter the exact same as the Rising Star. The Storm PSA layout of 5 ½ x 5 x 3 ½ is what I used. This puts the pin in my middle finger.  As with the Rising and Shooting Star, this ball hits like a stick of dynamite.  It provides the most length out of the three. Compared to the Rising Star, the Shatter provides more length, as just mentioned, and a defined movement off the spot in the back parts of the lanes.  At first, the ball seemed slightly sensitive for me, but a light application of 4000 grit abralon changed that. The ball uses all of its energy in the back part of the lane, and I needed to make the break point slightly sooner for me. The slight surface change gave me a little bit more forgiving reaction I was wanting.  When the lanes dry out and you need that ball to give you the length you need in the heads and mid lane, without sacrificing motion in the backend or hitting power, the Shatter is the ball that should be in your hands. The shatter is a great value ball from Roto Grip. The performance is fantastic, and for the price it cannot be beaten. For league this is the first ball out of my bag. It clears the fronts and has a great backend. The pin carry is also amazing, I am glad that I drilled this up in time for my winter leagues to start.

I have tried this ball at multiple surfaces, and it has shown me that it is very versatile. This ball shines up well to get through the heads and save energy for maximum backend reaction. Even at 1000 grit, it still cleared the heads and continued on the backend.

If you are looking for high performance at a great price point, than look no further.

Likes:A GREAT BALL. I DRILLED MY SHATTER 5 X 3 X 4 45 DEGREES WITH A LARGE WEIGHT HOLE OVER MY PAP. THIS BALL IS SWEET, THE GREEN PEARL SHELL GETS THROUGH THE HEADS FAIRLY CLEAN. THE MIDLANE IS STRONG AND THE BACKEND IS STRONG ALSO. BREAKPOINT SHAPE IS LIKE A HOCKEY STICK. A REAL BARGAIN IN THE LOWER MID PRICE RANGE.

My Axis is 5 5/8 right, ¼ up, my speed is average and I would consider myself with higher revs but more up the back.  So not a cranker but not really straight either.

Drilled the pin 4” and the CG 3 ½” from PAP (pin down).

This ball is awesome!  It goes through the heads very smooth then makes a sharp turn and has no quit.  It’s been great on house shots as well as several patterns where you need to play way inside.  With my release I’m always looking for a ball to play way inside and still get it around the corner with enough left on it to carry and the Shatter does that with ease.  It has also worked late in tournaments when the heads are drying up because it gets down the lane so well.  I would highly recommend this ball!

After a lot of success with the Shooting Start, I could not wait to try the Shatter with its pearl finish.  I loved the Shatter on a medium or dry shot. This ball should be ideal for a house shot.  In a typical league shot I could play outside the second arrow most of the night.  As the conditions broke down, I could easily move in 3-5 boards and stay in the pocket.  With the pearl finish, this ball has a sharp backend and makes a quick continuous move to the pocket.

My Shatter was drilled with the pin below the fingers and he CG kicked out close to the PAP.  I kept the box finish.  After a few games to scuff up the box finish a little, this ball began showing its real potential. This ball cleared the heads great.  In the mid-lane the ball revved up nicely and made a sharp decisive move to the pocket.

The Shatter has a very predictable reaction.  This is great for the league player. As the lanes transition, this is an ideal ball to go to. I made slight adjustments with ball speed and angle and was able keep the ball in play and use this ball all night long.

This ball surprised me and played a lot stronger than you would expect based on the specs. I was getting 4-5 inches of flair and bouncing the ball off the dry all night.
