The Sonic X will be loved by everyone looking for a ball for drier lanes.  It give very good length with an arcing backend.  The pearl surface helps on the length.  I drill the ball 5 X 4.  Pin above the fingers. I did not have a chance to use it on dry lanes yet.  However, on a house shot I moved outside the oil line and angled toward the pocket.  I saw the ball start to rev and thought it's going to jump through the nose.  Especially with the 5 X 4 drilling.   However, it just arced into the pocket.  I think only the heaviest handed bowlers can make this ball snap.  However, they would love the ball also because it would give them more control than their other balls.  With balls designed for dry lanes, you expect to lose some hit.  This is NOT the case with the Sonic X.   I think it would be a great ball for the second or third shift.  If you use it on the first shift, plan on playing the dry.  Don't be afraid to use a strong drilling on the ball.  Weaker hands, going deep will need dry boards to help the ball turn the corner.

Length is a 7 or 8 and Backend is a 3-4.  A lot less backend than the 7 posted on this website.  I would rate it 3 on oil, 6.5 on medium and 8.5 dry.

I throw medium to medium slow speed with medium to medium low rev.  Rev rate matches my speed.

I had a person with hand and speed throw the ball.  The span was short for him.  On a medium/medium heavy house shot he hit the pocket using his Storm LRG Core Power going 11-12 at the arrows going out to 7-8.  Using the Sonic X on the same line he hit a 10 pin.  Going straight down 7-8, the ball hit the 3-6 pins.  The ball did not snap.

check my profile for specs.. I punched up a sonic X last night.. my friend logged on my computer and I accidently posted the review under his name. Anyways, pre drill was 15.5 lbs. 1.5-2 pin 3.24 tw. I set it up pin over my ring finger and the cg 2in. over my midline out 1 inch.

This ball will flat out SKID!! I love this ball. It is very controlable, and will only be seen on the driest of conditions. The core in this ball is very strong and gives this ball all it's power. There will not be a condition too dry to throw this ball on. It it's extremely hard for a low-end ball, and I feel like this should honestly already voted as ball of the year in the low-end catergory. This ball will probably be a sleeper and don't let the price tag fool you. I paid $100 for it. And I got much more than what I paid for. Pick up a sonic X for the driest of shots and score like no other

hook- 7

control- 10

versaility- 7

sonic X gets 1 7.5 only because it won't see alot of action on 1st or 2nd shift shots. Big game tournaments, and even regionals would be a good spot for this ball when everything hooks too hard, too early.

thanks for reading and hope this helps your next selection.

I drilled this ball 5.5x3.5, the pin is 3.5, finger weight 5/8oz., side weight 3/4oz., Xtra hole on PAP..This ball goes long with a controled arcing backend on a typical 39 feet house shot..

I recieved my Sonic X about a week ago. Thanks Roger! I drilled it axis-leverage for my sport league. This ball gets down the lane with ease and is smooth on the back end. It will be a great ball for drier sport shots as well as drier house conditions.

I just got the Sonic X last week. I drilled it out with 0 weights all around and put the pin 1"1/2 off my PAP. I'm a high rev player with high ball speed. I love this ball!! It doesn't even try to read the lane until 40 ft. and when it does it rolls real strong with a nice arc on the backend and still hits hard. The ball keeps the pins low to the deck for a real nice mix and 10 pin kick outs. This ball fits real well in my bag for dry lane conditions. I highly suggest this ball to anyone looking for a dry lane ball or even someone with slower ball speed that likes to play straight.

Holy Bowling Balls Batman.  A Storm "go long" ball.  This ball will be eventually recognized as one of the best balls to come along in a long time.  Length without effort, and a big bang at the back.  For the normal "house" condition, this could be the answer to a lot of prayers.  Moves easy from oil to dry.  Best ball for the "big hand" player I've seen.   Let it all hang out, ball will forgive a lot of error.  Will give back a little control to "spray" type bowlers, if they are smart enough to recognize.

Ultra-Clean through the fronts, easy turn for home and superior hitting power when it gets there.

This ball works great in my chain infested market where the lane maintenance is low priority budget issue. Won't over-hook if it hits the crispies early.

I drilled mine label leverage.  I kept on squaring up my line.  My baseline Silver Streak was giving me a bloody nose from all the face shots. The Sonic X gave me a look like I was on a tight wall. No need to force this ball down the lane.  It gets there quite well with hardly any effort. But WOW what hitting power.  I was used to having to give up some punch for distance but not with this ball.  This ball makes a Scout Reactive look like a marshmallow.  Twisters will like this ball also.

I guess after throwing the Black Silver Streak, I was expecting too much out of this ball.  Hits hard, hooks like 6 on a 1-10 scale, definitely does not like oil, a good ball for drier conditions.  When backend gets carrydown, put this one away.  Drilled pin at 1:00 with a 1/2" cg shift.  I am going to try 2 others with different drillings, 1-axis leverage, and 1 like a 5x3 leverage.  I will let you know how they do.

Pin above fingers 1" with cg shifted slightly right of center.  A mild drill for me.  This ball has an awesome roll, great arcing backend, and excellent hit.  By far this exceeds my anticipated expectation of the reaction.  I like it better than the scouts, flames, and even my spirit.  Thanks so much to Roger at RG---he truly cares about customer happiness and has been very helpful, patient, and informative via the forum here and personal e-mails.
One final thing:  when I have to stand 35 and play 15 I can grab the Sonic X and play a 4 board belly over 12 and slam the pocket.  You will be surprised by the hit this ball produces on dry lanes if you throw it right!!!!!

I finally got a chance to see what this ball will do, as the lanes tonight were pretty dry. As a matter of fact, they have been this way for a while. Anyways, this ball will only do what you tell it to do if you roll it right. A buddy of mines shot 300 with one tonight. He's a bowler with alot of hand and speed and once he found his area it was over.

I am a stroker and like to get the ball down the lane. I shot 222 with this ball after shooting a 209, 218 with my reaction rev, and x factor. Lane conditions where med-light 35' and dry backends. I played 20-13 with very minimal hand. Just let it roll and it will work for you. You must hit your mark because your carry is alright but nothing to scream about, but what do we expect on this type of shot anyways.

Definitely not for anything but when the lanes are starting to get over hook and roll out

For the first look at this ball, I drilled it for me stacking the pin and bias 5 x 5.  I took the ball out on the second day of a house team tounament oiled every shift and the back ends not stripped.  The oil is laid down flat to 28 ft. and buffed to 39.  I started the ball up 10, out to 7, and the ball tended to squirt more often than not.  After 7 frames of this, I decided to get the ball rolling more, since that is more it's strength.  Out to first arrow and short set swing the ball with the hand held at 25 degree side.  The ball came to life, setting and arcing rather hard to the pocket.  From here the ball carried 70% of the pocket shots.  When not carrying, it left any of the back row pins.  No run of 7 pins here.  I am looking forward to taking the ball to a short oiled wood lane with dry out and on back, I think with a strong hand position and more hit, this ball will open up that lane that I normally can't find the pocket with consistancy.  In all this will be a keeper in my bag for some time.

Specs: 15 lb., pin next to the fingers with the CG kicked out a little bit. (Obviously my favorite drilling)

This is a very true rolling ball.  It hits very hard and throws pins all over the deck.  Great ball for drier lane conditions, or conditions with flyin’ backends.

Sonic X + Flyin’ backends = many messengers!!!

Only one complete game on ball and several spare shots.  Ball is drilled 6" from PAP pin above ring finger with mass bias to right of thumb.  The ball was very smooth and not to snappy.  It did come back strong and destroyed the rack.  This ball's only problem is me.  Ball went long and came back quick and smooth.  I like it so far.  I will update after 15 or 20 games.

It was a toss-up between this ball & the Hot Rod.  After some discussions with reps and owners of both balls I decided the SonicX would be a better choice for my needs.  I wanted the ball for shorter patterns with strong backends.  I was worried about drilling it strong but was told the ball wouldn't over-react on the back even with a fairly strong drilling.  Drilled it 4 1/2 X 4 with the pin just beside my ring finger and cg on mid-plane 1" out.  The ball definitely does not over-react.  Goes plenty long and hard arcs on the driest of backends.  The ball hits very good also.  No carry problems here!  Thought I might have to hit it with a white pad to knock a little shine off it to keep it from snapping but I didn't need to.  Great ball for this condition (and my style - see profile) but keep an eye out for carrydown - it will squirt with any significant oil downlane.
