Ball specs – 15 lbs 4 oz, 2.84 top weight, 2.5/8-inch pin.

The Theory was drilled using the dual angle method.  The layout is a 4 ½ inch pin, 50-degree drill angle and a 70-degree VAL angle.  An x-hole was needed and drilled at the intersection of the VAL line and a line drawn from the grip center through the CG to the VAL line.  This would be approximately a P 2.5 hole.  Using Storm’s layout terminology the layout would be 4 ½ by 4 ½ by 4.  The cover was left OOB.

Let me start by saying the Theory is the strongest Roto Grip ball I have thrown to date.  When compared to the Mutant, the Theory has an earlier and stronger mid lane read and still hooks more and harder on the back end.  The motion and carry of the Theory are both exceptional.  I was bowling on a longer, mid volume pattern similar to the Kegel Route 66 pattern.  I was approximately 5 and 2 to 7 and 3 deeper with the Theory than the Mutant and had a better ball motion and much better carry.

The Theory breaks new ground for Roto Grip regarding ball strength and ball motion.  The design team has out done themselves with this new core/cover design and match.

Using the Dual Angle layout method, I drilled my Theory 60/5/40 with a P2.5 balance hole.

So far what I am seeing from the Theory is a strong, smooth reaction. Sometimes with this layout I get a little over/under but not with the Theory. The Theory has great continuation, and keeps the pins low. So this makes for great carry.

Hank and the rest of the Roto Grip staff has come up with a new "Theory" and the Theory is going to be great for the industry.

Drilled mine to smooth out sport patterns.Dual Anglr Layout 40 by 5 1/2 by 55   pin ended up right below my fingers dead center on my center grip line.Have tested on Kegels 43 ft dead mans curve  41 ft ths and a flat tournament pattern this weekend.Ball is flat out Amazing. On the house shot it is too strong for my hand but what did impress me on this was how the ball didnt quit. Pattern is extremely wet dry so it stores in the oil but when it got to the dry it did not quit at all no hook stop at all, just a left hand turn with a strong continuation..On the Dead Mans Curve it was very very good .It was alot smoother with a nice midlane pick up and strong and smooth through the pins. No jumping or jerking motion off the dry at all. On this pattern it was a touch less hook then my Virtual GRAVITY  and a touch more hook then my Anarchy. On the tournament this wekkend the lanes were super tight. I had to play 22 to 18. if any ball got right of 16 forget about it OB.On this pattern my Virtual was actually longer with less overall hook. The THeory was perfect.Picked up early but was smooth through out the rest of the pattern. Ended up coming in 3rd out of 100 entries..The harder the pattern got in transistion the better this ball got..What a gem highly recommend

ThEorY ball review #1
My specs: left hander, 230 plus average 3 & 5/8th and 1/16th up, 17+ plus ball speed ,bowl in several leagues in 2 counties and bowl in about every tournament locally and state and nationwide.

Layout recommendation from Mike Sinek: 55x4 ¼x60 pin below middle finger, condition and no weight or P-hole. First reaction was the ball roll similar to the cell, but a more total hook and a lot less deflection going through the pin rack. After using it for about 20 games the reaction, unlike other solid reactive balls, has not change one bit and has not diminished one bit. Overall, a continuous arching ball with a ton of hitting power in the back end that shows no signs of slowing down. Thanks to Mike and Matt at Roto Grip for the support.

Bowler Statistics:
   Right Handed
   Approx. 425-450 RPM
   Approx. 17 MPH
   PAP – 5” right
Span – Middle finger (MF) 4.5”, ring finger (RF) 4.625”
   Pitches – MF .375 left 0 rev, RF .375 right 0 rev, thumb .125 left .375 rev

Review:

Theory: 4x4x2 with a 29/32 weight hole on the PAP.

The Theory, as I drilled it, gave me a strong movement off of the breakpoint.  I was able to throw a variety of angles and still make it to the pocket.  The Theory did not deflect off the pins as much as other balls which gave me more consistent carry.  The first game out of the box was a 300 and the 2nd was a 290.  I finished the night of league out with a 222 for an 812.  I have thrown the Theory in 5 other league sessions and have 4 – 279’s, 3 – 700+ series, and 2 between 675 and 699.

The Theory gives me room at the breakpoint both in and out.  I was able to get to the hole even when I was a little off with my angle of projection.  With the decreased deflection I left fewer corner pins.  I did however leave a few more 9 pin leaves.

I believe this will be the next ball of the year.  It brought me out of a small slump and I believe it will do the same for most other bowlers as well.  You will not go wrong getting yourself a Roto Grip Theory.  Another hit by the design team for Roto Grip.

I drilled the Theory using a 4 1/2", 75 degree pin/pap layout, MB 4 1/2" from pap, pin below my ringer finger, small rev leverage hole 2 1/2" below my pap on VAL.
On a PBA experience league Shark pattern (44'), the Theory revved up nicely in the mid-lane and had a strong, controlled move off the break point, with strong roll through the pins. On a PBA experience league  Scorpion (41') pattern, the Theory showed the same characteristics. On a 39' house shot, I was able to move in and play off the wet/dry with good results.
The new Triliptic Core, Insight Solid coverstock, and 2000 abralon box finsih,  provide  a combination of strong roll, good mid lane read, and energy retention. If your Cells are ready for replacement, try a new Theory.

I wanted to play the Theory on different conditions to test the adaptability of this ball. What I found was sheer delight.  On all conditions synthetic or wood this ball works fantastic.

I found this ball much stronger than the original Cell with a stronger move from the mid lane and continuous drive on the back end. I am playing the Theory 4 boards deeper and getting the ball to go slightly longer and come back to the pocket stronger. This found the Theory stronger than the Mutant Cell or the Mutant Cell Pearl.

On synthetics, I even got this ball to clear the head on a burned out league shot. This new design from Roto Grip performed much better than expected.  I love the core and cover stock combination.

My ball is drilled with the pin above the ring finger and the mass bias in the strong position. In league I was able to average 20 pins higher the first night. I can’t wait to try this ball again.

This is another winner from Roto Grip and should be a strong contender for ball of the year.

Roto Grips most hooking ball  to date. 5 X 4 X 3, pin down. Really good mid-lane reaction on heavy oil with a strong continous back end. Compared to Invasion hooks 3-4 boards more with same drilling pattern. Used on Shark twice and was able to chase oil left and never lost hitting power. Roto/Storm continues to lead the world with equipment. Thanks UTAH!!

Color: Two Tone Red / Royal Blue
Cover stock: Insight Solid Reactive
Weight Block: Triliptic Core
Intermediate Differential (Mass Bias): 0.013

Description: And now we have the Theory.
What is theory:
A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena,
Especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.
The Theory storm is bringing to you is based on an exciting new shape called the Triliptic Core.
It's a triple elliptical shape has a myriad of consistent axis migration to assist drilling and to help with predictability of ball motion...
Storm engineer came up with a design that’s intense,
With the Cytoplasmic series cover stock found on the Cell line.
The Theory Ensures ultimate traction through the oil
While storm Triliptic core delivers consistent axis migration and predictable ball motion as well as controlled motion through the pin deck.
conditions synthetic or wood this ball works,
This ball cleared the head even on slightly  burned shot.
I found the Theory  ball as strong as the original Cell with an strong mid lane and continuous drive on the back end.

My Axis is 5 5/8 right, ¼ up, my speed is average and I would consider myself with higher revs but more up the back.  So not a cranker but not really straight either.

Drilled using dual angle 50° x 4 ½ x 40° with no hole.

First threw this ball in box condition.  It worked well if you kept it in the oil as long as possible or if you bumped the dry and let it hook and stop it worked well.  Then I tried it with polish and it was awesome.  I seemed to have room on both sides of my target and the carry was unreal.  I could slow hook it or go hard and straight and it just struck like crazy!

My first try in league with it polished was on the USBC Blue Pattern 1 and I went 247, 257 then we moved pairs and I went 257, 257, so I had 804 for the first 3 and 1061 for 4.  The next night in a different center I went 279, 258, 277 for 814.  The following weekend I bowled in a tournament where the first 3 games was a 5 man team and I shot 260, 266, 268 for 794 and then the next 4 games was a 4 man tournament and I shot 269, 255, 267, 255 for 1046 with only the Theory!

I would say for me this ball shined is a little longer and stronger than the Pearl Mutant Cell and dull it is earlier and stronger.
Might have to get another so I can have both surfaces ready at all times!

For those that liked the original Cell, you will love the Theory.  For those that loved the original Cell, you will have a new love. The smooth roll through the mid-lanes and the recover on the back-ends is a pleasure to watch after you throw the ball. The cover stock can be adjusted to meet desired performance. The ball is pretty smooth to get through the heads. A bowler can stay with this ball longer than most bowling balls designed for oil.

The most surface I've seen since my old Epic bit the dust. I had 2 Theorys drilled up. The first one is for wet-dry, pin 5" from PAP abve the fingers and the mass bias 1/2 inch left of my thumbhole. This layout limits flare and is great for down the boards or right to left shots. I've thrown some big first games with this layout on 41', 7 to 7, heavy volume.
The other layout is 45 x 4-1/2 x 70 (small weight hole),this opens up the lanes. My pro shop hit it with Storm 1 polish. Its a smooth rolling ball that keeps the pins low on the deck. I have low ball speed, under 15 mph, so it sort of plows through the pins but it strikes a lot since the pins roll around the deck. Bowlers with higher ball speed and pin speed love this ball too. On the same shot 41', 7-7, I can move in and swing 12 out to 8 and play the oil.
If you want more surface, this is it. Smooth rolling strong arcing piece.

Picked this up at the Senior High Roller and drilled it after I got home.  First impression is strong, rolly and very continuous.  The story is really going to be how the shell transitions with a few games.  The original Cell was a monster out of the box and allowed me to get recovery on very flat patterns.  However after a few games, it became a decent, but much more ordinary solid ball.  I will very likely be using the Theory in a tournament this weekend that typically features a challenging sport pattern.
With only a few games on the shell I expect it to carry very well.
