This is a great ball! I have already shot a 300 with it the third week of having it on a tough league shot.  It seems to have a reaction that is between the original Cell and the Mutant Cell.  It has more of the mid lane read and even motion that I seen in the Original Cell. It has a weaker reaction than the Mutant Cell on the back end. It almost seems as if Rogo-grip took the Original Cell and the Mutant Cell and combined them. On any lane condition or any lane surface it seems to be a great ball that will match up in any person’s hand.

My specs: 6x5 with 2-3/4 inch buffer dual angle 65x6x40 – the pin is above the fingers but more over the middle finger and the CG is under the Ring Finger

This is an awesome ball for anyone’s arsenal.  The Theory with the out of box surface was VERY strong for a house shot condition.   I found more success with the Theory’s out of box surface on the sport shots.  The sport shots had more oil volume which helped the Theory reach its max potential.  I also changed the surface of the Theory (2000 polished) and found that it worked great with this cover on a house shot. This cover helped the ball save its energy, and not get into a roll too early on the lane. I have had success on both kinds of conditions, and believe this ball will be the most versatile piece of equipment in your arsenal.

40 Deg. Drill Angle, 4” pin to PAP, 35 Deg Angle to VAL, 15 lb. Box Finish

The roll of this ball is incredible.  Very predictable and has hitting power like no other.  With its strong arc, the pins do not have a chance.  It is amazing how many times I have put 10 pins in the pit.  I normally leave pins on the deck with my slower ball speed, but no way now.  Roto Grip continues to out due themselves, first the Cell, then the Mutant Cell, now the Theory.  It is now my new go to ball. Theory #2
55 x 4 ¼ x 60 pin down at 1000Ab. No extra hole

My specs: left hander, 230 plus average 3 & 5/8th and 1/16th up, 17+ plus ball speed ,bowl in several leagues in 2 counties and bowl in about every tournament locally and state and nationwide.

Found this ball to quite smoother in the front part of the lanes but not very angular in the backend. I’m able to play deeper shots and play in the oil without any hesitation. Used it on 2 local house patterns, one on HPL and the other on SPL. Also use it on Sunset pattern and the EBT Storm Open pattern from last year. Was very predictable but when it did reach dryer areas, it did want to check and hook earlier. The ball does need oil to thrive.

35 x 5 ¼ x45 pin up and at 4000Ab and polished.

My specs: left hander, 230 plus average 3 & 5/8th and 1/16th up, 17+ plus ball speed ,bowl in several leagues in 2 counties and bowl in about every tournament locally and state and nationwide.

My intentions were to see what happened when you put a stronger hook angle and polish it up like a marble. What I got was a ball that I can play the drier outsides, the ball gets down the lane a long way and turns hard like a pearl coverstock. This ball works well where a Mutant Cell Pearl would be too angular. It fits quite well between my Polished Mutant Cell Pearl and the 55 x4 ¼ x 60 Theory. Use it on Sunset pattern, the EBT Storm Open pattern from last year and 2 house patterns.

Drilled this one to be a quick starter and I found out that the does not quick. It loves the middle part of the lane and reads wonderfully in the backend. The shape of ball path with this layout is best used with heavier than normal house pattern and 50ML patterns like the KEGEL series. It was a little strong for a 38ft house pattern on HPL but great on a 40ft SPL house pattern.

Well I took this ball out to bowl with it on a beefed up house shot. I first threw my Mutant Cell box finish which was plenty strong. So now to the Theory, I line up with the Theroy box finish as I did with the Mutant and the first shot went four pin high. Thinking I might have just been a little slow, I threw it again with the same results. So I made a 3 and 2 move left and it was still too strong. So I moved another 3 and 2 and this ball was cleaner through the fronts but strong and continuous on the backend. I bowled several games and never moved too deep with this ball. If I missed to the dry part of the lane early, it just burned up and didn't hit. But if you kept it in the oil, it looked like it got stronger and stronger. Only sport pattern I've thrown it on so far is the Cheetah.  With the box finish, this pattern is not a good combination. For heavy oil or people that don't have a lot of hand, this ball would be a great addition to their aresonal. Another great ball by the team at Roto Grip.

First of all thank you for reading this and all prior reviews and thank you for all your feedback.

You can see the video posted here if you would like a visual as well.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj0ZpK9ZbL8

For those of you who have seen my reviews before, I decided to use a slightly different layout for this Theory.  We used a 50 x 4 x 35 layout with a weight hole on my PAP.  This kept the pin up and allowed us to clear the front of the lane very easy while still using the box surface.  The Theory picks up a great midlane roll after traveling easily through the heads.  Its transition to the backend is predictable and very strong.  Although not a snappy reaction this ball produces a very strong angle back to the pocket and maintains its hitting power through the pins.  Comparing to the Mutant Cell Solid it is slightly earlier rolling in the midlane, and allows me to move my line 3 to 4 boards inside while still maintaining a great entry angle into the pins.  Incredible RotoGrip Hitting Power.  Also, the Theory coverstock takes very well to surface change.  Making this ball shiny allows you to move your feet further right but will not produce an over under reaction. It still maintains great predictability at the breakpoint and awesome hitting power.  Great job yet again RotoGrip.

As a LH Senior Stroker I had the Theory drilled for league conditions.....3 inch pin W/pin above and one inch left of ring finger...the ball is smooth off the dry with great carry. But, I can go up 2nd or 3rd arrow in medium oil with the same Theory carry....I plan on drilling a 2nd theory with pin under & in for earlier break point and use in USBC Sport shot league...I believe all ages can benefit from this new ball from Roto Grip....Larry Hoffman, RG Advisory Staff

Layout- 5 ¼” X 4 ½” Pin over bridge, no hole.

I have been waiting for us to have this weight block (or a variation of it) in the US market for quite some time and, assuming you’ve seen them some by now, the Theory has not disappointed. What is most astonishing about this ball is its versatility. It’s easily the strongest ball in my bag and the strongest Roto Grip ball I have thrown ever (next closest was the SD73 Classic), yet it can be used seemingly anywhere on the lane. The first time I used it I started a night of league playing around 3rd arrow out to around 5. Usually the deepest I can get with a ball with some surface is around 17 or 18 before I have to switch to something with more length, but with the Theory I was able to finish the night with the ball and ended playing around 27 to 5. Incredible! Usually I would have problems getting a dull ball to recover enough to even get back to the hole or at the very least trouble getting it to store enough energy to kick the 10 out, but not with the Theory! It just kept coming! Kept hitting! Kept performing better than any high end ball I have ever thrown! If it isn’t too early to jump the gun, if there is only 1 strong ball to own in 2011, it is the Roto Grip Theory! If you were to ask me for a “complaint” about this ball, it’d actually be that the ball is TOO strong for me most of the time, but I turn the ball a lot and throw it kind of soft, so that’s not uncommon for me with strong balls. I’ve yet to have a dissatisfied customer with one though! By far the most hook, continuation and by default, HIT on the market for your dollar.

15Lbs-2oz.
Top Wgt: 2.68oz.
Pin out: 3-3.5"
Drilling: 4.5"x 4"

As I have said in other posts regarding this ball...it is a flat out BEAST! And, typical of so many RotoGrip products, it is deceptively strong. I have thrown this ball now on the fresh shot at three different houses. Because most of the houses in my area do not use enough oil for me to get the full effect of this piece, I was forced to alter it's oob surface from 2000 abralon to 4000 abralon(no polish). The surface change went well, as it gave me added length with absolutely no diminished hitting power, and no less mid-lane read. I have never seen a ball move downlane so smoothly, yet totally obliterate the rack, as if it were a skid-snap monster! Because this ball loves oil, I was actually forced to play the out of bounds area at one of my houses, in order to see it's true potential. No problem! I played between 5 and 7 boards. Normally, any ball I play there is immediately in the channel. Not with this piece. Great traction in oil, excellent hold, and turns the corner like a Ferrari in an 'S' curve! If you are speed dominant....you need this ball. If you are a stroker who wants to slam the pins like the Big Boys, you need to get this ball for heavy oil. The "HIT" of this ball is par excellence! It doesn't so much explode the rack, as it just sweeps everything away like a broom! Just clears a path as if the ball expanded it's size going thru the pocket area. It leaves nothing in it's wake. That is continous power!
In 9 games so far, I have left one ten pin....which is pretty remarkable. For a THS, this ball is a bit strong oob, but it is tweakable....which is what I am currently doing with mine. I will be reviewing this ball again once I get it in a regular rotation with my current arsenal. In Theory, this ball is just an idea. In reality....this ball is the equivalent of a Super Cell!! Similar ball movement on the lanes, but double the power. Outstanding job Roto Grip!

This ball is amazing. what else can i say. Its a typical 45 degrees layout with the pin above the middle finger. did not touch the coverstock. it gets through the mid lane clean and really stores alot of energy and drives rite through the pocket. These pins really had no chance when i was throwing my theory. My theory is that this is a really good ball and one of personal favorites.Dislikes:

I  really hate the name but OH dear Lord im starting to love the ball.

this ball its the most rolling ball i have ever thrown, this guy from STORM/ROTO Boomershine or something like that its creating something extraordinary. From the release of the cell, the reign, the mutant and now this.

Im fascinated with the reaction, the ball rolls amazingly well, and doesnt quit at the backend, its like the cell, but just better, for me the cell was a little more angular but tend to lose a lil bit in the backend part. Now with the Theory you cant ask for more, you just need to execute a good shot and the ball will do the hard work, first night with it shot 759(268/277/214) a few 7 pins and one 7-10 possibly took away an 800 chance.

I will recommend this ball for bowlers that need control in heavy oil stuff or very long patterns, or players that in house shot are able to play inside the 20th board and dont want to lose power in the back part of the lane where most heavy oil stuff tends to roll out in THS.

Also for those who want to increase their mistake room and still want to  create a good carry % .

Thanks Roto and Tizzle also for selling my a THEORY/ANARCHY PACKAGE

When bowling for college you are bowling on patterns that are some of the most challenging in the world. As a freshman at Wright State University I found that the transition from High School to College was extremely difficult from a bowling perspective. This new Theory bowling ball has made that transition easier. Already bowling in six college tournaments this year I have come to realize that all college bowlers need a ball that is good in the mid lane. The Theory is nothing short of fantastic in this category. This ball is just as good if not better than any other bowling ball on the market today at opening up an oil pattern, getting through the mid lane, and hooking viciously on the back end with exceptional carry. The Theory is the strongest bowling ball I have ever thrown. Best way to put it, it's a Mutant Cell on steroids.
