Tour Dynam-X
« on: August 30, 2023, 12:48:45 PM »
From the very beginning, Roto Grip's aim was clear for the Tour Dynam-X: to design and produce a cutting-edge bowling ball that revolutionizes performance with a fresh and focused approach. Responding to the requests of top-level tour players and skilled bowlers worldwide, they set out to create a ball that offers exceptional control, unwavering continuation, and minimal deviation, enabling them to conquer even the most challenging and reactive lane conditions. Roto Grip heeded their feedback and embarked on an intensive journey to develop the ultimate "TOUR PLAYER" ball. After numerous trials and a learning process filled with valuable mistakes, they successfully engineered a bowling ball that delivers optimal control and seamless continuation for every bowler, regardless of their rev rate. Their approach began by lowering the RG (Radius of Gyration) to initiate early core motion. This crucial adjustment resulted in the ball staying on its intended path for an extended period, reducing the typical directional change associated with high-performance balls. As if that weren't impressive enough, they also incorporated a mild asymmetry aspect into the design. This addition further enhances the ball's ability to maintain its trajectory while generating enhanced power as it drives through the pin deck, all while minimizing overall deflection. In summary, Roto Grip's relentless pursuit of excellence led them to create a game-changing bowling ball that fulfills the demands of tour-level players and skilled bowlers around the world. Its unrivaled control, seamless continuation, and extended precision on the lane make it the ultimate choice for those seeking an unparalleled bowling experience.

My Specs:
PAP: 4 7/8R 7/8up
Revs: 350 MPH: 15 at pins
Layout: VLS 3 3/4 x 4 x 3 5/8 Pin Down

The Roto Grip Tour Dynam-X is a bowling ball that delivers control, stability, and versatility on tough and demanding lane conditions. It features the new Rondure Tour core, which has a very low total differential and a mild intermediate differential, creating a smooth and stable motion from start to finish. The coverstock is the new Tour Trax Solid Reactive, which has a rough 2000 Abralon finish that helps the ball pick up early and provide a controlled arc at the breakpoint. The Tour Dynam-X is ideal for bowlers who need a ball that can handle over-reacting or shorter patterns, as well as for those who prefer a rounder shape down lane. The ball can also be adjusted with different surface preparations or layouts to suit different styles and preferences. The Tour Dynam-X is a must-have for serious or semi-serious bowlers who want to compete at the highest levels of the sport.

For my Tweener style I can describe the TD as an asymmetrical Hyped Solid. Not my first ball option in league, more of a third gamer on a THS due to my lower rev rate and speed. and not wanting to get steep with my angles.

Great ball to keep in front of you when you need that control at the breakpoint or when you a readable shape. No lack in confidence when it comes to execution and continuation at the pin deck.

Definitely a ball to have in your arsenal for the semi-serious and serious local THS tournaments and shorter sport patterns bowler.

The Tour Dynam-X is our new solution for urethane! The Tour Dynam-X has our Rondure Core that was in the Rubicon Series, and the Tourtrax Cover. I see this ball being useful with a lot of friction. It has an early and controllable shape which you will see in a lot of urethane balls. But the low differential, this gets you as close as possible to that exact shape.

Roto Grip Tour Dynam-X

Newest addition to the Roto Grip HP3 line is the Tour Dynam-X.  The Tour has  a strong solid coverstock with a low rg (2.47)and low diff core (0.26).  This is a unique combination.  We really haven't had that combo in a ball from SPI. So hats off to the design team! I drilled mine with a pin up 4 inch pin. I have used the Tour on a bunch of patterns, very versatile.  Its kind of cover strong like the IQ Tour solid. Ive been able to play inside 4th arrow and played up the lane around 1st arrow with the Tour.  The cover  responds with all kind of surface adjustments, whether it is with Abralon pads or step 2.
The downlane reaction is probably a little on the slow response side, but the Tour for me carries real well. The Tour is kind of between an asymmetrical and a symmetrical ball.  Even though the Tour is an asymmetrical ball, but with the lower diff it fits in between.  Great ball to have in your bowling ball arsenal.

Tour Dynam-x
It says it all in the name... Tour. This ball exceeds on tougher conditions like the pros see on tour, but don't get me wrong this bad boy also works wonders on a house shot. With is smooth, predictable, and very controlled motion you get an asymmetric shape with the continuation through the pins like a symmetrical core would.

The Tour Dynam-x is a shape that is essential to any bowler's bag. Initially, I thought the Tour Dynam-x would out-hook the IQ Tour Solid. Interestingly, I found that they picked up in almost the same spot, but the Tour Dynam-x got a little more forward off the end of the pattern, allowing me a little more control of the breakpoint. It's notable that the TD provides more control than the IQ Tour, seeing as how the IQ Tour has been the standard of control and predictability as long as it has been on the market (and that's been awhile). The TD also has the unique ability to get across the lane with slower speed and still maintain its axis/hitting power. The TD rolls like an IQ Tour but softens the breakpoint up a bit more and hits more like a big ball. What's not to love?

Bowler Stats:
Speed: 15.5 MPH
Rev Rate: 275 RPM
Tilt: 3-5 degrees
Axis Rotation: 60 degrees
PAP: 5 ⅜ over 1 ¼ up

Layout:  41/4 X43/4 X 2 VLS

With the release of the Tour Dyman-X during the PBA 50 Season I was not sure how I would match up with the design of the Rondure core. After seeing the core numbers and it being a weaker asymmetrical core I decided to put a stronger layout on it rather than my normal one. I thought it may give me a urethane type of motion off the end of shorter patterns since I didn't have urethane as an option in my arsenal. Unfortunately I think I missed on the layout because it’s very confused on the house and sport patterns.

The 41/4 inch pin placement gives me the proper length with the weaker core but the 43/4 mass placement doesn’t allow the ball to flare enough when it begins to read the dry at the end of the pattern. I used a similar drilling I would use on an !Q Tour solid since this ball was to be slightly stronger with the same type of ball motion.

I changed the cover to 1000 abralon by hand and that helped it read the house pattern for my ball review video but as it shined up it still was confused.

I plan to drill another one and change the mass bias placement in the VLS layout to 4 inches and so it will flare more to match my lower rev rate.

The Roto Grip Tour Dynam-x provides a look that all bowlers would welcome to their bag.

I'm a right handed player whose style leans toward being rev dominate.
Speed off my hand is in the mid 16 mph range.

I drilled mine 45x4x35.
This is my go-to layout and gives me lots of options.

The Dynam-x is a low flare ball with a fairly strong solid cover and finish.
On the lanes, house or tournament conditions, this ball provides a confidence inspiring mid lane of climbing shape.
I like using it when I can stay on top of the shim with speed and chase it in.
The dig in this cover alongside the slight asymmetry in the core makes this the play for me.
It was a mere matter of moments after I got this one on the lanes that it was destined for my tournament bag.

You can reach out to me on my Facebook page, "Throwing Bolts and Seeing Stars", if you have questions about this
great piece.

Layout: 30 x 4 x 65

The Tour DynamX has a very unique ball reaction that, as intended, is best compared to the Storm IQ Tour.  It is very smooth and predictable, though the added asymmetry gives it a touch more downlane kick.  It does not pick up too early, and saves everything for the midlane. With surface, this ball is good on heavier or flatter fresh patterns. For me, the smooth arcing nature of this ball lends itself to being much better when straighter angles or a “down and in” line is needed. Once I have to move left, balls like a TNT Infused or Clone come around the corner better.  I find that this ball is a great alternative to using urethane.

I drilled my Tour Dynam-X 4.5 x 4 x 3.5 and I was really looking forward to throwing it.  It has the Rondure Tour Core, which is a slightly modified version of the Rondure Core that was in all the Rubicon balls.  The Rubicon Tour core has a slightly lower RG and intermediate differential, but a significantly reduced differential.  I really wanted this to be a ball I could bail out to after the lanes get torn apart during league.  My first reaction throwing the ball was “This ball HOOKS!”  Needless to say, that’s not what I was expecting out of this ball.  It took 7-10 games for it to really tame down and settle in, which has significantly reduced the amount of overall hook and has become much more of a control piece.  I’m still not using it a lot on house shots, but it definitely makes the trip with me to any tournament I bowl in.

Sneaky good and very predictable.  I haven’t had a chance to throw the Tour Dynam-X very much before I had surgery.  The Dynam-X was definitely stronger than I expected.  I had heard different reviews on what this ball was supposed to be.  I heard it was supposed to be strong and I also heard that it was supposed to be weak and roll more like urethane.  Both of those reviews are correct.  What I mean by this is the Dynam-X is a strong ball but has a roll like urethane.  The reason I say it rolls like urethane is because of how early it picks up on the front part of the lane and starts reading the pattern and then gets down lane and breaks and has the nice strong controllable finish through the pins like urethane.

No, I am not saying that this is taking the place of your urethane equipment because it’s not.  What I am saying is the roll reminds me of a very, never seen before strong urethane ball.  The Dynam-X hooks like a solid and is very controllable and hits like a tank.   I truly believe that the Tour Dynam-X is going to be useful on all different types of patterns, be very versatile and shoul make your line up, I know it’s making mine.

I am a higher speed, rev challenged 220-250ish, high tilt, high rotation, and super low track player. I drilled my Roto Grip Tour Dynam-x 5 5/16 x 3 x 2 and my axis point is 3 ¼ right and 7/8 up. The Roto Grip Tour Dynam-x is a small asymmetric solid reactive piece that I really like to use on short and medium volume patterns. The low Rg and small diff gives this ball medium- high flare potential when I need something to spin up fast, be clean, smooth, and controllable this is the ball to go to.

The new Roto Grip Tour Dynam-x features the Rondure Tour Core wrapped in Tour Trax solid reactive coverstock.  At 15 pounds the ball has an RG of 2.47 with a differential of .026 and an intermediate differential of .010.  I drilled this with the pin above the bridge.  The Tour Dynam-x low differential will allow bowlers to keep their angles closed longer and play closer to the friction than most reactive balls would.  This ball is a must have for tournament players as well as league bowlers.  The Tour Dynam-x is very controllable for the tougher patterns as well as blending out the wet/dry house patterns.  This is a heavy rolling ball which not only excels at going up the boards, but it also performs well when you need to open your angles a little bit.  This is one of those balls that won’t wow you with overall hook or backend motion.  All it does is give the bowler a consistent reaction with excellent pin carry, keeping you out of trouble and in the pocket striking longer!!

LANE CONDITION

Length:44ft

Volume:26ml

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS

Likes:When RotoGrip discontinued the Rubicon it left a hole if you needed an asymetrical  ball but you didn't need the really strong cover stock to blend out the lanes.  I decided to go with a 5x4x1 in 14lbs so that I had a ball that would shape downlane instead of roll early like the Gem or RST X3.  I was pleasantly surprised when I threw this ball.  I could get it a little right and it would recover and carry. If I missed a little to the left it seemed to get down the lane far enough that it wouldn't just pile into the headpin.  I bowl on a typical 44ft house shot where this ball is not quite enough coverstock when it is fresh but once the lanes start to open up the Tour Dynam-x is like an !Q Tour on steroids.  I would not recommend this ball for really long oily conditions or very dry conditions but most players will be able to find a spot in the middle of their arsenal.
