Devour is looking a lot like the IQ Tour with it's read of the lane condition due to the surface out of the box being 3000. The specs are a lot different on a Devour vs IQ Tour comparison (Devour is med RG/med diff, IQ Tour is low RG/low Diff), but the roll pattern is very similar. The Devour gives the RG line the closest reaction to a benchmark in that it flares pretty tight and has some surface to slow it down. The Devour does give a pretty good read of the condition and lets you know where to go in your arsenal which is what the benchmark slot should be for.
Outcry is a hybrid and tends to lane shine quite a bit which gets it down the lane more than the Devour. Not saying the Outcry can't fill the benchmark spot but to me it is a little more motion off the spot than the Devour, a great ball to get a little more length/open your entry angle up with than the Devour.
Hyper Cell Skid is almost a first ball out of the bag just because if the look is there for it, it is such a striking machine. Toasty like in just dead spark has to be the new Loco Pearl. Easy length, and enough roll to go away from the pocket some and get it to hit. Unhinged is the classic skid/flip ball in the lineup and may be the best look for the less hand player to go to when they start to toast. Wrecker still gets good length, but has that hard wheel that straighter players may not like as it opens your feet to eyes ratio to the right.
So last year around Christmas time I decided to try another brand, so at the time I got rid of my hypercell and uproar. Since then I have been seeing a lot of new great balls coming out with Roto and thought I might try a few (nothing beats rotogrips power in the pocket). So I am considering getting 2-3 balls. What is everyone's thoughts on first ball out of bag, benchmark, toasty out of the current lineup?
I was thinking maybe:
First ball out of bag = Haywire or Hypercell Skid
Benchmark = Outcry
Toasty Conditions =
