USBowler 2009-2010
« on: November 13, 2009, 05:11:17 AM »
Did anyone read Mallot at a glance on page 28? Ball: roto grip cell pro. Is this a cell cover with a weaker core or what? Never heard the cell called by that name.

Yep. They also state that Michael Fagan uses a fingertip grip, like most advanced players...And in the picture you can clearly see the sarge in use.

This is not a typo. Elite tour players can get core/cover combos that regular people cant get. If you read why he likes the ball he states that it is a very good core in other series but with this cover it really works. My guess is that it is like the Brunswick TE balls. And I have heard stories of some storm guys throwing exclusive equipment such as a Hyroad with a N stamped next to the cg marking which the N stands for Neptune core so they are throwing a ball that has a smoother core with a stronger cover. Which if you look at most players equipment the strong things are usually drilled with smooth layouts, nothing too crazy like most house players use.

How ironic!

The PBA used to say that the members oculd only use balls that were available to the general public. Brunswick in the last 90s and early 00s had many special balls, called Touring Editions, but at least they were available, even if they were hard to get.

Now it seems that at least with these Storm and Roto-Grip balls that there's not even a token attempt to publicize them or even acknowledge that they exist.

FOr my money, I'd never buy a Hy-Road. the core is just too strong. If they did like Brunswick did with the Avalanches, I'd be more than tempted to try one.

A Hy-Road or a Rogue Cell coverstock wrapped a Tour Power core or a Hot Rod core would have instant sales of 5000 or more!

Tour editions happen a lot more often than you think!

Tburky, you are right. All companies have to do this to cell the ball. Im sure that all these players love the equipment they are throwing but people really think that the great players like Norm and Wes are using normal balls that anyone could get off the shelf? I also heard the other day that the ball Wes was talking about is a Cell pearl with a silver streak core. With that being said, is that the reason Wes couldn't take the Nomad out of his hands over the summer?

Could not have been just a "Cell Pro"...  It's either a typo like some have suggested or a Cell Pearl Pro pin or CG, like someone else has suggested..  Checked with PBA.Com approved equipment & no "Cell Pro" on it's approved list.

Hey guys, been a while since I have been on here.  We are busy at work in the office!  The reference to the Cell Pro was in fact a TYPO!  They were talking about the Cell Pearl.  There is no ball called the Cell Pro.

Good point, my friend. Why buy a great ball everyone seemed to love (the HyRoad) when you could instead take one of the 500,000 other balls you have sitting around and apply one of your endless number of useless coverstock prep techniques to it to get any reaction known to man.
.

thats funny you think that you could take "any" ball n get the same reaction(s)...

im sure the core/rg/diff WONT come into play!!!
