We had our first Cell brought to the shop today that cracked all the way around the ball.  Story goes that it wasn't left outside in the car or anything.  Just looking to see if anybody else has had this issue as of yet.  Not trying to bash the ball or ball company either, I think the cell gives a great look for most bowlers.

  Who's was it?  I was in there today and didn't see one.  I saw that Shift that was in 2 pieces though.  My Cell has a crack from the ring finger to the pin, but then again, so does every single ball I own except for 2.  I had Daryl drill my bridge wider today...Tom told me they all crack because of how I release the ball?!?!?

My only issue with stories like this is I've never in my life seen a ball crack the whole way around in a single crack by itself.

Now I'd believe it if there was a 4 inch crack or something like that, but I've never seen a ball just crack in half like that.

My assumption, it cracked after drilling (which is unfortunately common) and they chose not to get it fixed or didn't see it, and it got worse with time.  Had they caught the crack after drilling they could've prevented it.  I speculate, but again, when have you ever seen a ball just crack itself the whole way around?

I have seen everything from the tiny "spider cracks" to ones that go all the way around, myself, too.
 
No company is immune to the cracking issues because it may be a coverstock problem, or sometimes it's a filler material problem. For example, if the filler material gets too much air in the mixture it can crumble, and when it does, the support for the coverstock goes, and the ball cracks.
 
Whenever I see any "ball cracking" posts I am never surprised, but I also hope that they are isolated incidents instead of a huge problem.  The consumers need to have confidence that the manufacturers are trying to rectify any problems that are discovered, as well as the manufacturers replacing the defective balls in a timely manner.

If gone unresolved, these problems can hurt the whole industry because the average guy will be afraid to spend his hard earned cash on a new ball because he's afraid of it cracking (or whatever).  Again, it can happen to any company at any time.  Luckily, our shop's experience has been positive regarding the manufacturers standing behind their product and replacing, when necessary. I don't doubt that other shops have had similar experiences.
