Mutant Cell
« on: December 28, 2009, 09:49:47 AM »
Would I really need anything stronger than a Mutant Cell? I will be buying one from a friend. It's drilled 4" pin to PAP, pin under ring finger. Not sure about the MB right now. Thinking of just keeping it at 1000 abralon and saving it for tournaments and the PBA Experience league I'll be bowling next year.

I'm a stroker, 275-300 RPM, 15-16 MPH ball speed, good axis rotation.

Thanks.

(For what it's worth, you really shouldn't say "good" axis rotation.  The only "good" axis rotation is the proper amount for that particular lane condition for that particular bowler and ball.    I assume you just mean you have a lot of axis rotation.)

I have yet to see a condition where my Mutant Cell could really shine for more than about half a game.  It's just too freakin' strong for its own good!  I drilled it for fresh oil when the backs are jumping and I need a piece that can cut through the oil and be predictable.  I went with a 4.25" pin to PAP and a 2.5" pin buffer that put the pin up and right of the ring finger with roughly a 5.75" pin to MB.  This makes the ball very controllable since it revs up quickly but predictably.  Kind of a hook/set reaction, but it really drives hard through the back and carries much better than you'd think.  However, it needs a LOT of oil up front to save up this energy.  I got to use it for 6 frames yesterday on the Kegel Middle Road pattern in a tournament before I put it up.  And I've got slightly less hand than you do.

Waiting to try it at the Bradley Open in a couple weeks in Lexington, KY.  50-53 feet of oil should help it get down the lane.

Judging by the pin location, that could very well be a weak angle to VAL drilling-meaning that it's not going to be really jumpy off the breakpoint and give you an arcy motion.  Depending on oil length and volume also, you may wind up needing something that transitions and moves off the spot faster.
