Compare older favorite R/G to new R/G balls!
« on: April 26, 2009, 10:04:15 AM »
What do you like about the new released Roto Grip balls compared to the older balls? Do you look for the same shape reaction, break point shape, how the ball finishes, do you prefer symmetrical or asymmetrical weight blocks, solid, pearl, or hybrid coverstocks! Just trying to see what everybody looks for when they buy a ball! See for myself I really liked the RSX, Silver Streaks, Horizon line and I still have two Odyssey's. I prefer control with a strong finish and that's what I really liked about the RSX and I liked the Battle, but never could get the feel of the Quest! I like the Grand Illusion, but I like the way my Mystic and RSX finishes better! I really like the Cell line, but don't always have the volume of oil I need with them! Thanks for the input, Bruce

I used a white scotchbrite pad without polish on my pin-up Rogue and it really changed the reaction. It gets down the lane a few feet further and has a really strong move at the breakpoint!

My first RG ball was the original Epic.  It has turned out to be the best ball I've ever owned and got me hooked on Utah stuff.  I like the reaction so much that I tried an Odyssey hoping that it would fit above it.  It turned out to be a dud.

I recently picked up a Rogue and was hoping for that Epic reaction.  This ball is exactly what I was looking for.  The layouts are identical and the Rogue is 1 step stronger.  If it is too much, I ball down to the Epic.  If that's too much ball, I will try either a Rapid Fire or Gravity Shift.

I personally really liked the Illusion and Horizon pearl.  The Mystic was touchy for me.  The Odyssey was garbage in my hands so I never tried anything else with the Maximus II core.  I've owned all the Cells and liked those also.  The original was great until mine died.  The Pearl was also great until I changed the surface...could never get it back to where I liked it.  The Rogue IMO is the best of the bunch.

I've also really liked the planet balls I've tried.  The Pluto is the best "cheap" oiler out there.  I still carry a Mercury in my bag, and the Mars seems to be good but I need to play with the cover a bit.

Raven,
Thanks for the reply and I have two Odyssey's that I use and they are drilled different. It being a lower RG I have one drilled pin above ring finger and mb 1" right of thumb and the other is drilled pin above middle finger with the mb 3" right of thumb on my val. I also had another one the was drilled pin 1" above midline centered on the centerline and mb 3" right of thumb and it had a really strong move at the breakpoint and was more readable than the two I have now. I also have two Rogue's, one pin up and the other pin below middle finger, which is my control Rogue! Good luck with Roto Grip and Storm and look for the new releases coming this summer. Bruce
