I just had the second straight solid night with an old Retro Resurrection, but more importantly, I'm starting to break out of a slump that has lasted nearly two years.
I averaged 210 one summer league, and my highest fall league average in the past was 198. Last year, I fell to 180 in fall league, then averaged about 168-171 over the first few months of this season.
The last two weeks, things have changed. Two weeks ago, using a 167 average as my base, I shot 568 with my RR and most importantly, got a lot of my confidence back. Since this ball is older and a little oil-soaked, it's not as violent as most of my newer stuff. It made me get back to basics.
But it also has a core/cover combo that works really well for me and always has, and hit or miss, I've been able to immediately understand everything I did from shot to shot. In other words, my adjustments have made sense and I'm attacking the pins again instead of being tentative.
This past week, I hit 591. I missed a 600 when I flagged a 3-pin to the right (I'm right-handed), something I haven't done in a couple of years. I know a 600 is nothing to a lot of you guys but it's pretty da*ned important to me, since it marks two weeks in a row that everything worked right in both my physical and mental games.
I'm now psyched again about going to league because I feel my confidence coming back, and it all basically started when I pulled this old ball off the rack again and in doing so, took a lot of ball performance variables out of the equation.
For those who care, it's a 15-lb ball, 3.25-inch pin, drilled approximately 4x4 with the pin over the bridge and the CG in the palm -- one of my favorite drill patterns of all time.
