Any holes in arsenal?
« on: July 27, 2017, 09:52:19 AM »
Hello everybody,

Working hard over the summer to get ready for my season. Bowling in 4 leagues and a handful of tournaments. Looking for some advice on what ,if anything, I am missing in my arsenal. I realize I do not currently have a hybrid, but I really am not sure if I need one. PAP 4 1/4 over and 1 1/2 up   16 mph with low track and low revs.

Current arsenal:  No Rules  -  Dare Devil Trick -  No Rules Pearl -  IQ Tour-  Desert Ops  and a Tropical Storm. Looking at the Hyroad or the Code Red as a hybrid possibility. Problem is I really don't know what ball I would replace if I pull the trigger on a hybrid. Love all 6 of these balls. Always value your opinions. Just switched back to 16 lbs and so far so good. I feel I have 2 balls each to cover the Heavy , Med and Dry conditions. Opinions welcome.  Thanks

Just to second the opinions on long patterns.  My best option on long patterns is often a strong asymmetric pearl.  Aggressive shell preps just blow up the heads without opening up any swing area.  Pros learned this quickly on the Badger, and now play much straighter on all the long patterns.  Even when they get deep the bring the break point way in rather than trying to go coast to coast.

Id strongly suggest working on getting your hand in a stronger position and less energy focused building the perfect arsenal. If there are holes in your game there will always be holes in your arsenal.

I think this is something that a lot of newer bowlers should hear.

Not a newer bowler by any stretch. Been bowling over 50 years. I just struggle on the longer patterns. I get too used to bowling on the easy stuff. A lot of us have the same problems, especially us low rev, low track bowlers.

I am also an old low rev guy but I can get it end over end, and it really helps.  My best shots are on patterns like Paris and Badger.

Also, just as an added thought.  Too many guys on these boards talk about filling out an arsenal like they are filling irons in a golf bag.  There is no possible arsenal that will allow someone to just keep switching balls instead of adjusting.  Talking about finding a ball below one ball, or betwen two balls is counter productive.  It doesn't really work that way
