After much debate with myself (always interesting if weird) I've decided, tomorrow, for Single and Doubles, to take my Roto Grips with me instead of my Tracks. Just a hunch. So I'm taking the following....all 14 pounders.....Epic Battle, Epic, Horizon, Saturn, Mercury, plus, from Ebonite, the One and the Big One, and my Columbia Blue Dot for spares. So what do you think? I figure that I've got a heavy oiler with the Battle, with the Epic and Big one I'm covered for medium-heavy, the One and the Horizon take care of the medium range, the Saturn for light-to-medium, and the Mercury for dry"ish". Plus my spare ball. Wish me luck! This is my first time to a State Tournament. I'll take my Tracks to Team on Sunday.

Chuck - nervous but excited. (You'd think at 50 this would be a piece of cake...oh well.)

WEll....live and learn. And always remember you learn more from your mistakes than any other way, unfortunately. Too bad we can't seem to be able to learn enough from others mistakes to avoid them ourselves, but that just seems to be a human condition. I had a good set in the doubles portion of the tournament. Had a 597 series yesterday. Might be good enough to win some cash since my partner had a 640, combined we managed a high score with handicap in the upper 1400's. Got off to a good start in singles with a 197 until sticking problems with my fingers and thumb in my bowling balls ruined the second and third games, not to mention causing some degree of discomfort in my right hand. Need to get a couple of things adjusted, especially the thumb hole on my Horizon.

In team, I tried to use my Tracks, bowling balls I have great confidence in. I'm new to Roto Grip by the way. And I had a terrible day, a 462 I think. Ugly. But I figured out why, too late of course but still.... We were a five person team bowling on lane 35, and bowling on 36 of course. There wasn't a team on 36. Lanes were very heavily oiled. And simply put, my heavy oil stuff...GP2 and Robo Rule just wouldn't finish. Couldn't figure it out. Tried moving right all day and nothing seemed to work consistently. Now I realize why. On my team, we had two straight bowlers. Two other bowlers used a line of between 20 and 15 out to about 5 and in. I was the only one trying to play a down and in shot over 10 to the pocket. Every time I moved right all I did was move into more oil! I should have move inside to take advantage of the rest of my team, and try either a down and out shot over 15 or a short hook over 15 straighter to the pocket. Live and learn. Next time I'll know. Just let my frustrations take over and not think. It was so obvious in retrospect. Hope this helps someone else from making the same mistake.

Overall I was impressed with the Epic Battle and Epic. They hit hard, carried well. I like them. The Horizon I just don't know about yet. Worked well in practice sessions, but couldn't use it in the tournament due to my thumb sticking as well as fingers. Same for the Saturn and Mercury. Overall I think all will be okay. Just need to make an adjustment or two. Roto Grip makes good equipment. I'm impressed. Still like my Tracks too. Just have to be smarter next time.
