Apocalypse and RS-1
« on: November 11, 2004, 04:23:37 AM »
I have both of these balls waiting to be drilled up.  My intentions are to have a medium-heavy oil ball (apocalypse) and a medium-light oil ball (RS-1).  Looking at the core dynamics, the RS-1 actually has a little stronger core...  will I see similar reactions from these two balls even though one is a pearl and the other a pearl/solid mix?  If this is the case, will I be able to achieve my desired reactions by drilling one relatively strong and the other relatively weak or are they too close together?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Strapper,

The Apocalypse has an Asymmetrical core and even though it has a higher RG than our RS-1 that weightblock should naturally pick up sooner.  That with the combination of the solid/pearl coverstock you should be fine.  I would suggest the following for layouts (something along these lines):

apocalypse

2-3" pin from cg
put the pin underneath your fingers 4" from your axis and kick the cg right and below your midlane.  This should allow you to place a hole 1 - 2" below your midline on the VAL.  I would also knock the surface down to 600 or 800 grit.

Overall you should be able to handle heavier conditions with this ball and get a much stronger roll on the backend.

RS-1

3-4" pin from cg
put the pin above the fingers and either kick the cg in (5 x 5.5) or stack it (5x5).  You won't need a hole with this layout usually.  If it skids to much for you out of the box I suggest taking it into the pro shop and sanding it down to 600 and then lightly polish it back up with STORM reacta-shine.

If you have any other questions please call me.

Thanks,
