Title: back on the bandwagon :/
Post by: TheFreeAgent on October 14, 2009, 11:43:31 PM
Ok heres the story, Im currently throwing 15lbs and all brunswick stuff, but im considering jumping back to roto grip and a little storm when i go up to 16. My question is is the Epic Saga really less of a ball than the Illusion? I was trying to build an arsenal of older equiptment for the most part.

Heavy oil: soild. Mutant Cell
Heavy oil: pearl. Virtual Energy
Medium Oil: solid. Grand Illusion
Medium oil: pearl. Illusion
Light oil: Natural
Money Ball: Epic Saga (always wanted one because of how good every one threw it)

The Epic Saga will cover more boards but it isnt far from the Illusion but it will give you a different look at the break point due to the Illusion being pearl and the Saga having a hybrid coverstock (and different cores to boot). I didnt match up well with the Saga and the Illusion is condition specific for me so it dosnt see the lanes that often. For a Medium Oil Pearl I would check out the Nomad Pearl.

Only throw the good stuff, Roto/Global.

No, it isn't.  Saga is a hybrid and the Illusion is a pearl.  Saga is asymmetric Maximus II while the Illusion is symmetric Helios.

On most fresh house shots the Illusion will give you more length while the Saga will give you a typical asym. arc.  In most cases the Saga will be a couple of boards stronger than an Illusion.

Epic Saga is definitely more ball than the Illusion, probably 4-5 boards more.  I loved that ball and would probably still be throwing it if it hadn't cracked in half on me.  But that's what I get for using switch grips, but no more as I'm in the process of fixing the middle finger span on my equipment and using a regular slug instead of switch.  They create more problems than they fix.

1st off, why move to 15lbs? the bowling balls today are made I believe for 15lbs, the numbers sometimes are weaker on 16lbs then 15lbs balls. I believe you can bowl better with 15 then 16. Now for ball choices here is a honest guess, since I dont know how you roll the ball.

1st-heavy oil-- Mutant Cell
2nd- House condition-- Nomad Solid and Cell Pearl
3rd- Lighter condition-some sport shots- Natural and Mars
4th- Spare ball-- A MUST- CROWN from RG or a TEAM STORM.
Good Luck and Great Bowling.
