dry lane ball
« on: September 26, 2008, 03:06:04 AM »
I was looking over my arsenal (that i use on a regular basis) and found that i have no ball for dry lanes & flying backends. I mainly use my highly polished absolute inferno for these situations but just wanted to get some insight from others and i been wanting to try a roto grip ball for some time.
STATS:
- high tracker, pap 5 3/16 X 1/2, 325-350 rev rate, slow ball speed 15-16mph, tilt(?), axis rotation high.

current arsenal: playmaker 1500k, AI-high polish, gamebreaker-500 + polish, kinetic 2k w/ polish, raid-2k, tantrum -2k, momentum- oob, t-road-4k

I have a Lane #1 Liberator with a long pin that allows me to play the dry. The better dry lane ball is the Lane #1 XXXL (Plastic). I have had success with the Neptune and A Ebonite Black Ice (if you can find one !). I have even used my Lane #1 Cleat Buzzsaw (Blue Core) with a 1/2 pin right (in my palm) and it works on the extreme drys !

I just got a Neptune a couple of weeks ago.  While it gets down the lane very good it is real aggresive on the back ends.  So if you are looking for something for dry heads then it is a great choice if looking for something for dry backends then this is not the choice.

Since your request involves RotoGrip balls, I will respond in kind. I too have been constantly in search of a good drylane ball.

I think I have finally found it, by committee. I use a rico drilled UltraSonic on dry lanes that have just a tad bit of carrydown. Ball gives me excellent control, while everybody else's is either burning up or going brooklyn. By the way I scuffed the surface with a grey pad on my Ultra.

I also use a rico drilled Mystic that works with or without carrydown, and still helps me to control flying backends. Between these two balls I have fairly conquered my problems with dry lanes.

Please don't be deceived, the Neptune is a great ball for choppy, inconsistent lanes, however it is still a strong piece. It's not nearly as snappy as the Vibes, but it is still very strong. If you look at a Hornet you'd better go with a pin-down drilling as well, because the Hornet has a sting on the backend as well!

Mystic is a particle pearl, normally meant for medium +/- oil. Definitely NOT a dry lanes ball for 99.9999% of the population.

I agree. The Mystic is a medium, to med/hvy oil ball but great for control. Because I like this ball so much......I did the experiment with the rico drilling.

I used my #1 Mystic to score and place at the Nationals in Reno, year before last. Hope that gives you an idea of the amount of oil that this ball can handle. It is not usually used on dry lanes.....but I love the control it gives me.....hence my experiment.
