What's a solid roto grip arsenal?
« on: June 23, 2005, 03:39:36 PM »
Looking of getting into roto grip, good prices and I've heard good things about their stuff...anyway...

Trying to stay in the entry and mid-performace lines...
For a basic starting point how would this look for an arsenal(not all balls would be roto)

Heavy: Power Diesel
Med-Heavy: RsX
Med(Benchmark): Rs-1
Med-Light: Ultra Sonic
Dry: Slate Blue gargoyle.
Spares: White Dot

Let me know if you think there would be a lot of overlap or have any ideas to make this arsenal better. Drilling ideas are recommended to. I don't have any real specs so...I'll just say I have a slow speed(12-14) with med revs. Any comments/suggestions welcome.

Edit: Forgot my spare ball.

Well the RS-X is a strong ball, but still iffy in true oil with that OOB finish.

If you don't want to spend a ton of money, keep the RS-X, RS-1, and Ultra Sonic and add in another RS-X, sand it to about 1500-2000(or Gold Scotch Brite Pad), and a Super Sonic(if you have stronger revs to fit between the RS-1 and Ultra) or a Ressurrection(if you have a lower revrate to fit in between the RS-1 and Ultra).

I wouldn't use a strong high flaring pearl (RS1) for my benchmark...I'd rather see a stronger smoother drilled Resurrection....

With your speed and revs you should be ok out of box on the RSX ....

Drill the RS1 a bit longer pin from pap ....and both the Res and RS1 will cover similar patterns with different shapes ...the Res being more BENCHMARK-ESQUE

DP3's ideas are nice too......

So the Retro Res would be better for a benchmark? What would be a good drilling to put on it, any ideas? Also if you guys think there would be an even better benchmark ball in their line up let me know...

Hex, Ressurection is a great Benchmark ball, and the Super sonic can be one also.  My layouts are in my profile, just if you go with the Super Sonic, don't place the pin as high as mine, keep it below the fingers and you might want to add a little surface but then again you might like the out of box condition.  They are both great balls but do note that the Ressurection does Flare a great deal, but even still it will not hook as early as the RS-1 if there are dry heads.

Well talked to my driller about making some ball choices...the first ball I'll be picking up will be the med/benchmark ball so I want to get it right. I was assuming the retro would fit inbetween my animal untamed and my orig hex for right now but he tells me that there is a good chance it will outhook them both very easily. He called it a sleeper ball, you get more ball than you're paying for. He recommended the Rs-X instead...but I asked saying I don't know if I want a 1500 polish ball that's gonna flare a good bit for a benchmark ball. He reassured and said I don't see why not, we can tame it down, just because it's a benchmark ball doesn't mean it shouldn't flare/hook.

I'm really unsure now, because what he thinks vs. advice from here sort of confuses me. Based on my style...he told me to stay away from duller equipment, it's going to check up too early(unless we got some oil out there), and quite frankly I think he's right. I'm not too sure what to do...any advice guys?

OKay this is first thing, there is no way that the Ressurection is going to outhook the RS-X, I don't care what anyone says.  True it is a heck of a lotta ball for the money but the RS-X is more.  Don't be weary on the Ressurection, the coverstock polishes up like no other, so you will have a lot of options with the surface.  And even when the heads are little dry my Ressurection clears them better than my RS-1 and RSX, if your scared go with the Super Sonic, either choice you can't go wrong.

you've got to realize that this ball is not available to the vast majority of people. It was discontinued a while back.
