I agree, in my Friday night league I was ave over 220 with my Cell and Cell Pearl. Had to start throwing weaker older equipment before my ave got out of control. Those two balls had me 20 pins over last year.

Sounds fishy Huskerfan I do agree. But does that make everyone who uses older gear a bagger?

Like others have said, please tell me you are kidding.  Sandbagging in itself is  bad enough, but to admit to sandbagging....come on.

Why would you even consider trying to lower your average.  You should be out there bowling the best you can every time you shoe up.  Why even bother bowling?

Granite Gargoyle rico 641
Impulse Zone 657
Roto Grip Black Grenade 624
Yellow Dot 711
Silver Streak Pearl pin 1" from PAP cg in palm 661

I have to agree.  If you purposefully use a ball in which you may not score as well as you would with another, that is a form of sandbagging.  I know people who only bring a white dot to league and average over 200, even though they throw aggressive stuff in tournaments.  Don't get me wrong, I don't mind losing to someone with a white dot, but to do that and get handicap on top when you would be a 230 bowler with anything else, just isn't right.

But I also realize people don't bring every ball they have to league.  You may bowl bad and say, "I could have used ball X and shot much better tonight," but don't ever admit to laying off on purpose.

I guess, just admit to using a different ball to keep your average down.

If someone stops using a ball because they feel it is performing better than some older equipment they have, that is 100% snadbagging no questions asked.

Exactly, why burn out my Cell and Pearl Cell on a easy house shot that I can score with just about anything. I am saving them for tourneys(which I bowl Scratch only) even in the city and state tourneys I sign up for scratch division only. Our mini marathons and other roving tourneys around here are all scratch.

I use a old Primal Rage in leagues alot when I am subbing in leagues is it sandbagging because I use that and not a newer ball?

Its only sandbagging if you know that when you bring out your Cell or (insert ball here) you shoot 750 90% of the time, and you still choose bring out the Primal Rage or (insert older ball here) which 90% of the time you shoot 550 with...

I could care less about people scoring extremely well with old equipment... sometimes its the best, even I know that. But people who purposely don't bowl their best (or make decisions that prohibit them from bowling their best) are the people who really tick me off...

Because of this, I refuse to bowl in handicap leagues... Ya, i'll sub occasionally but I will not commit to 30 some odd weeks of handicap

There are many ways to look at this scenario.  If a person purposely uses the wrong ball to keep their scores down then they are sandbagging.  I don't worry about my average in every league I bowl, nor do I worry about others handicaps.  My high book average is always above par so it doesn't matter.

If I'm bowling in a league for fun with friends or the wife, I have used the wrong ball to work on different parts of my game.  I work on speed control, hand positions, changing tilt and roll control.  I’ll work on controlling the break point or how to get length and above all being consistent enough to make it work for 3 games.  Basically league bowling as a great practice opportunity.

When you practice by yourself you break the pattern down slowly or in a controlled fashion.  In league you have 5-9 other people playing different lines with all types of balls depending on the type of league.  This is a great time to work on keeping up with transition and learning to control a ball that may not match up perfectly.  When you run in to a similar situation during the middle blocks of a tournament this information can be invaluable!

I don't consider using the wrong ball sandbagging then.  I'm still trying to score but I'm learning at the same time.  If I'm paying to bowl then I'm going to work on my game.  If anything I'm hurting my team by not using the right ball.  If I did this all season and built up some handicap only to change balls for the roll-offs and go big then that would be a different story.

I don't get wrapped around the axle with sandbaggers.  People who feel the need to cheat to make an extra couple bucks can have it.  I have more important things to worry about than if someone is purposely trying to bag for some pins.  If I know they are I'll use that as motivation to bowl better when I face them, otherwise, who cares?  It’s not like I’m bowling for a $50,000 prize fund!  People worry too much about what others are doing when they should be worrying about themselves….but that seems to be the new American way………..

By some peoples standards then, just about every bowler in a classic league with an average cap is a sandbagger. The system is flawed, it'll never be fixed, and everybody needs to get over it.
