So as some of you know I have been pretty dissapointed with my Cell on the league shots that I compete on. I was thinking about adjusting the surface some to hopefully make it more playable, but had not gotten around to it.
Yesterday I had a tournament at a house I had never played before. Synthetic lanes, modified house shot, some out of bounds, heavier pattern.
Started with my Black Widow and had a good look in practice, but soon found it was not the right ball for the pattern, and decided to switch to the Cell because it would handle a little more oil (at least I was hoping).
So I salvaged the game I had after a couple splits with the Widow and shot 213.
Then we skipped 3 pair and I continued to use the Cell. I started off with the front 10. On the 11th ball, I did just about everything you could do wrong. I got slow, hit it hard, and missed inside, leaving a 7 split. Then I proceeded to miss all 3 pins haha and shot a score I will probably never duplicate 284 haha. Luckily I did win the high game jackpot for that game and it paid for my tournament, jackpots, and brackets.
The 3rd game I came back and started missing spares. I shot a 197, but it kept me on the bubble for the cut, and by bubble I mean I was sitting in 24th. The next game more of the same..kept missing spares, but luckily strung a few together and shot a 234. Once again they announce I am the cut score lol.
Next game we go to a pair, and I start with a 7 pin and miss it, solid 9 pin, solid 8 pin, strike, 8 pin, 10 pin, split. I ended up shooting 155 and the tournament was over for me. I went from +128 to + 83 and I had to shoot 300 the last game to make it in. I started off with the first 3 and then left a 7 pin and it was over for me. I was so dejected by the 155, it made it hard to concentrate knowing I only had 1 more game to pull it out. I ended with another 213 and + 96.
What I have learned about the Cell is that for some of the fresher heavier shots, or freshly oiled and stripped shots with screaming back ends, it is the right ball to have. It did not wheel at all, but it allowed me to play straighter and with a decent speed, and it still hit very hard. I had a couple shots come in light and it tossed them around.
Carry was never an issue from the beginning with this ball, it was just a matter of finding the right patterns for it. So instead of messing with the cover stock, I am going to leave it as is and leave it at home on league nights.
Just wanted to update, since my original review was posted after using it on a couple league shots and a couple open bowling conditions...
