Sorry for the thread hi-jack, but this is kind of relevant.
I was looking to fill out my arsenal. I've been working on my game a lot recently, and I've changed by release and the track of my ball. I've finally got it settled down to the point where I am comfortable with it. However, I only have two balls left that I seem to get a good reaction with, my Sure Fire and my Shift. I have not had time to get my PAP remeasured yet, but I'll try to give as much information as possible.
Rev Rate: Power Stroker to Low End Tweener
Axis Rotation: can vary from about 20* to 60*
Ball Speed: slower, tends to be about 14-17 on Quibica (at pindeck)
Axis Tilt: about 10*
Now, my Shift I am looking into making my benchmark ball. I drilled it with a lower pin that is in a moderate to weaker position. (think it is 5") The MB is swung way out (about 5" right of grip center) and we put a very large weight hole over where the center of gravity used to be. I left it at box surface, but a lot of the polish has naturally been knocked off. It gives me a lot of midlane read and control on the medium patterns, but won't pick up once I start seeing larger/longer oil patterns. Not much backend, but if I get on it, I can move in a bit.
My Sure Fire is set up weaker. The pin is about 1/4" to 1/2" weaker than my Shift, with the pin above the fingers. The CG is placed a little bit to the right (it was a seed ball, so the pin is shorter, I think 1.5"-2") and we placed a small hole 4.5" right and 1" up from the grip center. I took the surface down to 1500 and really hit it with some polish. It reads the midlane a lot less than my Shift, so I can follow my Shift with it when the lanes break down, or use it as a flippier ball on dryer conditions.
Now, I'm looking for something to go above my Shift. I definitely want to get a Roto-Grip ball, I'm just not sure which one. I'm pretty sure I have it narrowed down to the Cell or the Odyssey. Overall, I want a decent amount of midlane (I don't need too much since my ball speed is lower) with the ability to tip up off the break point. I tend to not get the ball turn around enough when I move in and get the dreaded weak hit. Therefore, I'm looking for a good turn off the break point. I'm hoping to get something that will pick up enough to give me a straighter look on oil, but also be able to make a strong move on some medium to medium heavy conditions where my Shift isn't giving the right angle and my Sure Fire isn't picking up enough.
From what you guys suggested, that appears to be the Odyssey instead of the Cell, right? Is everyone pretty much in agreement that the Cell is going to be more midlane and the Odyssey has more backend? I understand I am also going to have to pick the right drill, I just don't want to try to fight the ball if I don't have to.
