cell help
« on: January 29, 2011, 03:46:34 AM »
im not to good with the bowling terms but i have a origional cell and i love it i dont really crank the ball. i roll it and mostly let the ball do the work but i just got a mutant cell and its nothing close to my other ball i roll it and it seems like it starts to make a turn to the pocket but doesnt have enough to get it there almost like im rolling a straighgt ball..what could i do to get it to hook more? and is there another ball i could get that would be better..or any different ways to drill it?

 1. The Mutant Cell core is stronger, so it burns more energy sooner.

 2. The Mutant Cell cover is stronger, so it burns more energy sooner.

 3. You are a stroker with a limited supply of energy at release.

It would be my first guess that you are indeed using a ball that, on the condition you are using it on, is burning up all the energy it has and is somewhat "rolled out" when it gets to the pocket.

If you insist on using the ball, take it to a very fine grit (say 4000 abralon), then add a gloss polish to it. The core will still be strong, but the cover won't generate as much friction, and might allow the ball to retain its energy long enough.

What would be your suggestion be on a new ball? I really like the original cell but sometimes it burns out but not nerarly as much as the mutant..I also have a virtual gravity and it burns out also..I play on med-heavy oil I would say.  Thanks for the help

I'm also a stroker.  I've had the same types of trouble with very strong pieces like the original Cell.  I have had good success with the original Cell Pearl and the Nomad Solid, both will give you more length and store more energy for the backend.  You might think about one of those, or even a Nomad Dagger.

Cell pearl saves it all for the backend and hits like an absolute truck so continuous through the pins. I love it. Just got one from somebody on the forum here I would highly recommend it.

I might try a cell pearl or possibly a different brand. What do I look for in the ball info so I can stay away from something that will burn out on the back end ?

travis18208,

I am a stroker also and ran into the same issues, I loved my Cell, Cell pearl. Mutant was not that great for me. A new ball I would suggest if you want something similar(same smoothe strong Arc) to the Cell is the new Theory. It is a stronger version of the Cell. Good luck!!!

You might want to avoid strong cover/core combinations (ie Theory, Cell, Mutant Cell which are all solid coverstocks).  I would be looking at pearlized covers, or possibly weaker polished solids (nomad).  You might also want to drill the ball with a longer pin to pap distance to increase the amount of length/backend.  Cell Pearl, Mutant Cell Pearl, Nomad Solid, Nomad Dagger, Storm Anarchy, Virtual Energy, Infinite Theory (yet to be released) might all be options that can be drilled to give you better length and strong backend.
