Roto-Star has been around for a LONG time!

I have the receipt from the first bowling ball I bought myself. (I didn't realize I had save it until I was looking over some old boxes from our last move.) I was just telling my driller about it; so I was looking it over. Guess what it says:
"Roto Star and Manhattan Rubber Bowling ball dealer"


I had no idea that Roto Star had been around for that long!

The date on the receipt is 11/2/65.

FWIW it was an AMF Classic sold for $24.95, Drilled! That's the one with the 3 white dots that were usually poistioned above the finger holes.

Wow, I have one of those lying around here.  It was my dad's, then I used it and it would always get stuck in the ball return at Howell.  That's crazy.

Speaking of drillers, I'm going to our mutual friend this weekend, assuming he's there Saturday, to drill up my lovely new Roto Grip Neptune

I had a Roto Star X-2 back in the mid 80's, that was a tremendous ball.

$25 back in 1965 is now $165 inflation wise.

I have my Dad's Roto Star XR that he bought before I was born. He said he got it before his Shore D and White dots and the serial #'s date them in '67 and '69 respectively. I still use it along with a Black Diamond. In fact my brother shot 805 with his on monday.

Roto Grip was a cult favorite here when I was a little kid in the 70's. There are some guys who tell me the blue polyester Roto Grip ball is the best ball they had ever owned even over the bleeder YD's.

We also used to move quite a few Grenades back in the day when I first worked at a pro shop. My manager was a "Roto" head and would push their products every chance he got.

I was glad to hear that Storm bought them and revived the name and products.

Call ahead  to hear his hours on Sat. and tell him you're coming. OJ's hours are uusually, but not always 1-5 on Saturday.

If I remember correctly, Roto-Star was started by Vinny Yetito from New York back in the 60's.  After he died his son moved the company to Florida.  One of the pro shops I use to work at in the 90's sold a bunch of the Roto-Grip Bandits.  That ball hooked a lot in its day.

My old home centre has a Roto Star SR on thr rack(one of those 90 hardness things) And they sold a NIB X2 a few yrs back they got from a warehouse out here in Australia that had some real old stuff still stashed away.

Although I didn't own one back in the 60's a guy on my team had one. I was very impressed with it but wasn't in a financial position to get one (even though the price might have been $30).

NOTE: Looks like SPELL CHECK is out AGAIN!

My first fingertip drilled ball, back in the 70s, was a Roto Grip RC5. It was Roto's equivilent to Brunswick's LT-48. What a great ball that was... wish I still had it, just for nostalgia.

I learned to bowl with a Roto Star Star Trak ball that a friend of mine gave me.Shot my first 600 with that ball.

In the old days,  Roto's use to come pre weighted.  The balls had side weight and finger weight.  All you had to do was find the combo of side and finger weight you wanted,  and drill the ball.
