So where's the Venus and Mystic replacements already????
« on: September 22, 2008, 03:36:36 PM »
Particle pearls have been one of RG's major strengths in their lineup. I just looked at the 2008/9 catalog and there's nothing in there except the current 5 balls.

So where and when are the Venus's and the Mystic's replacements coming around??

I've never seen a flippy mystic, and that's with over 40 or 50 drilled.  Geographical THS differences maybe?

I must say I prefer the lesser medium oil handling capability to that of the Illusion the Venus provides me.

I am one of the few but I have no need for the Grand Illusion, Cell, or Cell pearl other equipment I own duplicates their reactions and oil handling abilities.

I'll also say I've matched up with pearl particles better than any other cover stock.

I've watched Mark Curran throw his, is all I can say. He uses only RG but doesn't have all of them. Mark doesn't have a flippy release but can use the lanes very well.

Haven't used my Mystic in awhile, so I put it back in the bag Monday. Monday and Tuesday nights, back to back 700's. Someone tell me again why I stopped using that ball?

Because, like most of us, you have too many balls covering the same range of usage and you can't remember which is which?

I loved my Mystic's. With a little surface they acted like pearls up front, but strong and controllable downlane and almost impossible to throw through the break.

This amazes me, especially from Charlest, because not too long ago you said

quote:
If you want a certain reaction, you buy a ball that gives you that reaction FOR YOUR RELEASE, FOR YOUR OIL PATTERN, FOR YOUR LANE SURFACE. You do not buy a certain type of coverstock or a certain type of core or a core with XXX specs. That guarantees nothing in this day of modern coverstocks and very sophistcated cores.

This is not a theory. This is a fact.

I suggest you stop looking for something that may never exist and use what's there right now to get what you need, not what you want.

So why look for a particle pearl now? What Steve and DP3 say is true, with the stronger covers it is easier to replicate the reaction of a particle pearl.

Now granted people use different balls for different reasons, for me particle pearl was great on crisp snappy backends because it blended the wet dry(meaning it didn't fly off the spot) A polished cell and Grand Illusion give me the same type of blending reaction.

I only see one other particle pearl in the major ball companies lineup and thats the Shift.  It seems that with new cover technologies polished solids are filling the particle pearl void.

I do not think there is a practical porometer for the bowling industry nor does the industry need one at the pro shop level.  That is what the USBC equipment and Sspecs dept.is for  The USBC and the manufacturers are already measuring surface roughness (Ra and Rs plus other variables).

The bowling porometer will be another counter cluttering dust catcher just like determinators are in some of the shop I have visited.

I agree that with the new covers there might not be as much of a need for a pearl particle at the high performance end of the line but I can tell you as a person who plays with the surfaces of my equipment Pearl particle in mid and entry level equipment is very viable.

You will have to pry my Mystic out of my cold dead hands LOL!!!

Because, in this particular instance, RG's Venus, I saw what I wanted and needed and it gave me that PLUS. SO if RG did that good a job before, I look for them to be able to do it again. I have also seen the RSP in the hands of teammates it gave a similar look and feel and reaction. I don't see myself violating the above because i didn't say somethign to the effect - let me see all particle pearls from all manufacturers.

In fact, I don't look for any particle pearl from one of my favorite manufacturers, Lanemasters, because their Black Pearl was too flippy for me. (I should reserve judgement on the World Class Particle pearl. Many people report its evenness.) Yet their Masterpiece acted, FOR ME, exactly like I think a particle pearl should and I have stated that many times in the Lanemasters forum.

Most solids have the POTENTIAL to give that look with the correct drilling and surface preparation. However, for some particle pearls, it is easier to do this with special surface preparation. The Cell is even better because of the cover/core matchup. I don't see that YET for the GI.

Possibly.

In BTM's fall ball line up section, Roger states that Rotogrip "highly favors" particle pearl covers and that they have a ball in testing with a particle pearl cover.

I wouldn't be shocked if other ball companies are using particle pearl covers without advertising the particle component due to the bad perception of "particle" among bowlers. "Textured" pearl sounds much better...

I have heard, via the "underground", that there's more than one ball out there with particles in the coverstock (both solid & pearl) that goes completely unmentioned in the ball's specifications by the manufacturer.

Remember now that particles are Politically Incorrect in the bowling world currently.

I would also like to see a Mystic replacement.  I still use mine but still it would be nice to check something like that out this season.

I actually tried to use my Venus tonight but it was puking in the heads.  It seems I'll have to polish it up some to get it down the lane.  It did give me a nice even roll though, very controllable.

Next week I'll try the Mystic hopefully the results are different.

But Yipes. A_P_K, everything was burnt tonight at Carolier PLUS you had that healing blister on the back of your thumb. We won't even mention the SMOTHERING, stick-to-everything humidity!

Yeah I should have known better than to be boneheaded and try my Venus when the heads were gone.

There were a few key factors last night that didn't go too well at least we'll be prepared for next time.
