Title: cell pearl vs 715a
Post by: footerson on July 22, 2009, 05:21:18 AM
hello. Im looking to get a new ball before my upcoming tournaments and the opening i have recently noticed in my arsenal is i dont have a strong pearl. I was looking at the cell pearl and the 715a but i want to know what all your opinions are on them. I want a ball thats pretty angular but not uncontrollable due to the fact i bowl on a lot of sport shot.

The Cell Pearl is a very good ball. I don't think you will be disappointed with it. If you want it pretty angular go with a more pin up drilling. It is also pretty strong. I would say about 7 boards less than my original Cell to give you an idea. I would also go with the CP because it is giving you a proven core and a proven cover instead of a new ball.

you might want to look into the new 900 global break point pearl.. a very clean and angular piece.. with the addition of the flip plate on an already proven weight block that is strong to begin with, its a win win for what your looking for.. give it a try..

The Cell Pearl and the Break Point Pearl are both very long and very angular, if anything the Cell Pearl has just a little more mid lane read compared the the Break Point Pearl but eather one of these balls will get you what your looking for.

I've drilled up a couple of cell pearls, and by nature they tend to arc, not flip really.  I drilled one pin up above the fingers 4.5" to 5" drilling, and the mb about a inch to the right of the thumb and that layout didn't work for me at all.   The ball went long and just 'stood up' with very little continuation I'm about 330 to 340 RPM rate, so not big hook player but not really a straight player either.  Tried with a couple of different coverstock preps, and on many different patterns but it never rolled very well.  Redrilled to stronger layout about 3.5" and slightly weaker mb and now the ball arcs very strong off the midlane and is much more continuous than with the longer high pin position.  For me the ball works better on lanes with carrydown, some oil in the midlanes, and the fronts going away a little (but not dry).  The coverstock is very very agggressive for a pearl which is why the ball is really 'flippy' but more of a hard arc.  Let us know how you drilled it up and how yours reacts.

Dude, nobody gave you any info on the 715. Do you think that you are choosing the best ball for your style??  You can't be, based on the responses you got.

For me the Cell Pearl drilled pin up was flippy on the backend. I never matched up with the ball. I have not tried the 715 so I can not give info on it. Maybe some of the "Legion" members will wake up and give you some insight.

Probably not getting responses on the 715 because it just came out... and doesn't have much history behind it yet.

If you want a reaction that can be categorized as a flip, I would not put the cell pearl as the best ball for that, it is angular for a ball in the cell lineup, but there are much better choices out there for that. The break point pearl is definately one, the hot sauce pearl, burn, one pearl, 715a,  the epicenter.. those are all angular pieces. The cell pearl is more like an arch like the poster above mentioned. Controllable it is though!

Hmm..Lets see what I have in this bag...some virtual gravity, some hot sauce, a liberator, and a saw.. how can I loose....
