Cell reflections - next steps
« on: April 14, 2008, 02:37:06 AM »
I just purchased a Cell. I have it drilled pin under with the CG out about 60 degrees, a very strong drilling, and kept it in the OOB finish. I got to use for PBA Regionals, and from it appears Nationals. I threw it for the first time this weekend on the Scorpion pattern. I am very impressed with this ball as it rolled very smooth and definitely picked up earlier then my Resurgence. It was only operator error that kept me from making the cut (missed by 16 pins, damn!). Overall I am very impressed with this ball. A did leave a few more 9 pins then expected on this pattern, but I can take those to see the ball move as it did through the oil.

This gives a me a great heavy oil ball, with a step down in my Resurgence (also drilled pin under, OOB finish). But my question is I have found in the past I have a large gap from my Resurgence to my Rival (shined). I was thinking of either a duller Rival or Polished Resurgence to fill that gap, but now am thinking of a Polished Cell. My stats are 18-19MPH, Medium/High to High Revs. Based on others experiences, what is good drilling for this second Cell? I am afraid with the polished surface, a drilling that is too weak will make it too similar to the Rival. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

Jorge,

Why not go something like a 5 X 3 or 4 and keep the pin buffer very close to 1".  This should give you more length (and polish can help if needed) and give you a very good move on the back end.

Don't even need to polish it. I have a layout that would work perfect for you on a Cell. If you want to see it PM me your email and I will send you a picture.

Another thought. Has anyone tried a RICO type drilling on a Cell?

I have heard a lot of good things about that drilling on here, but my Pro Shop Operator said he tried it once and the ball went pretty much dead straight. I was thinking of giving it a whirl on an old ball to see what it would do, but now not so sure.

I've been told since the ball is already basically mid-lane in the box if your going to drill it RICO it should be a modified Rico with the pin just below the fingers on the mid-line. That's how my Cell is, you can see it on my practice session video for 4-11-2008. I wanted to try a real RICO on it, but everyone I talked to thought it was a bad idea.

Jorge,

I have 2 Cells.  The first is drilled pin next to ring, 3-3/4" from PAP with the MB 3-1/2" from PAP and a weight hole.  My second is drilled 5 x 3 pin over fingers, about 4-1/2" above the midline.  These two make a great combination.  I don't get to use my 3-3/4" x 3-1/2" drilled Cell, since I don't see that much oil.  Both will be going to Nationals with me.  If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

i purchased my cell last week had drill to hook early. my pin was 2-2.5 something like that.  i used it during practice since i got it haven't thrown it yet on league but i already had 9 games on it.  in my bag i have an action attack drill stack leverage but out of box the ball goes down the lane pretty easy. having a cell next to my action attack is good? i had my attack sanded to 1000 but i changed my pitch so i haven't tried yet how much hook it will have. can anyone comment on this thanks.
