Title: Cell with Label layout. Who has tried this?
Post by: axeweldr on October 07, 2008, 12:35:05 AM
I have a BWS drilled like this, with ebonite factory polish.  Would I be wasting a cell to try this layout on it?  This layout places the mass bias in the track.  Thanks for the input.

Wow, that would be one super-smooth reacting ball I imagine.  Though I think you're approaching the situation backwards.  Don't think about "what drill do I want on my ball?"  Ask yourself "what reaction do I want from my ball?"  Then you work to create a drill layout plus surface combination to create that reaction.  For example, I wanted to use my Cell on oily conditions or when the backends are flying.  I opted to use a longer pin position (between 5.5" and 6") with a pin down layout to create smooth length from the drill, allowing me the option of keeping the surface dull for good midlane read.  The mass bias ended up in the strong position since I needed to make sure the ball had some help turning the corner.  Even with this, it's ridiculously smooth when it turns the corner.

The BWS has a much lower Mass Bias strength (.012") than the Cell (.018"). You did not affect the BW's backend as much you would the Cell's. I suspect it mightbe too much unless you have a lot of revs or a lot of tilt. It might be safer to put the MB around the thumb hole as a maximum.

A friend had his Track MAchine drilled that way (BC = MB in track) and the ball was a dead straight ball.
Now you might say he played it wrong... his tropical outhooked it by 15boards and even my XXXL hooks more than his Machine...
he shoots his corners with it.... expensive spareball it is!

be carefull with those negative MB placements.

Jon, you might really like it, should really tame the ball off the point but still have a nice kick, and with your hand you need less hook...im still throwing that cell i got from you, what a BEAST!
