not necessarily polish but taken to a higher grit... for me it allowed the ball to be used on a wider variety of lane conditions and gave me a bit more backend.  It didn't make it snappy or uncontrollable though.  I think the ball OOB is probably a really great ball on heavy fresh conditions with some backend.  The places I bowl don't have that much oil in the heads so it would smooth out the hook on my cell or it would just hook way too early.  Used an older 2000 abralon and it put a bit more shine on it than OOB.  And seemed to work well.  4000 abralon seemed a bit too long if you had alot of speed.. but that depends on the lane condition also.

FWIW I found mine to be lousy with polish, it seemed like the cover didn't take it well. This is the only knock on the cell I had, I did however use it at 4k abralon a lot and it lengthened the reaction and gave it some more backend than box finish.

Yes.
A lot depends on the drilling AND on the base grit level for the polish. FYI I would NOT apply polish on top of the 2000 grit Abralon stock surface. That, for me, made the ball very skid/flip, approaching the level of the Cell Pearl.I sanded mine down to 600 grit US with a green nylon pad then applied 2 levels of polish.
First level was a light hand-applied coating of Valentino's Snake Oil. This allowed the ball to go longer and have more backend, but it was still very controllable. This seemed alsmot ideal for me on the medium oil and lighter that I usually face.
Second level was a spinner-applied abrasive polish, Storm's Xtra SHine. This was half way in between the light controlled version and the polish applied to the 2000 Abralon stock surface. It was more flippy than the controll but less flippy than the uncontrollable (for me, anyway) version.

So, as per usual, a lot depends on where you want to go/be, and how you want to get there.

I also tried the next finer grit level, 4000 grit Abralon matte finish. This handled medium oil fine, vs the stock surface's medium-heavy oil, but I had to start the night standing against the ball return because of the huge backend. Not my cup of tea. Besides which, I had to change balls in the middle of the 2nd game.
