Commonwealth Championships Arsenal :)
« on: June 25, 2006, 11:01:04 AM »
Well as some of you know, I'm off to Melbourne Australia on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning to represent Northern Ireland in the Commonwealth Championships

Deliberation on the bals to take, due to VERY limited weight allowances (I'm already going to be paying a fortune!), I could only take 4 balls, and the tournament format uses the Long/Short duel patterns so 4 isnt a lot!

Have gone with an Epic Battle with about a 5" Pin and about a 3" MB, left with a 360 sanding, a 4" Strong RSP with a 360 sanded cover finished off with Grey Scotchbright, a 5.5" Strong Highly polished (legends factory + Storm Xtra shine) RSP, and a Mercury with a 4" strong layout.  (I'll be getting a polyester ball out there and leaving it there, so if anyone from Australia is reading this and wants a free poly, give me a shout! lol)

I would dump the strong RSP due to the fact that if your Battle is too much ball then odds are that RSP probably would be too, then all you have left to go to is a weak RSP and a Mercury. I would try to go for a SSSE/Horizon/RS1/RSX thats drilled strong (4" pin, Mass Bias 70 Degrees) and then tweak the cover as needed depending on the length of the pattern that day. If I was a betting man, you will probably put more miles on that ball than the strong RSP.

The "Strong RSP" is actually a little deceptive... I actually find this not overly strong (probably due to so much use) but is drilled 4" with strong CG (thats what i meant by strong).

The battle should is far more agressive than the dulled RSP.  My 2 RSPs are two of te best balls I've ever owned and were the foundation of the arsenal.  The covers are so versatile, and I reckon if ater practising on the tournament patterns that the dulled RSP is too close to the Battle, I can polish it or at least sheen it to make a bigger gap between it and the Battle.

If I was going to a tournament were I might expect a heavy/medium/light pattern, I'd be right with you on the spread of the arsenal, but on the long/short format, and not a tonne of games on each oiling, I dont know how useful a medium pearl/solid reactive would be... When practising recently though on patterns for the event, I found that once my strongest ball stopped working, the Polished RSP from deeper was the best.

If you want anything drilled while I'm away, such as if any nice new balls arrive , be my guest to drill them yourself! lol

I think its a great lineup... its gona cost me a fortune in excess baggage!
