been mentioned here yet?

It seems it's solid version of the Rising Star using the same core (Neutron Core) and a solid version of the Ultimate Vision coverstock.
Release date 10/25/11

With all the new releases, this lower tier ball seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle. This could be a real sleeper along with the Frantic for people this year. I love Storm's lower end dull solids, they grip in the oil but dont burn out by the time they hit the backend.

I am also liking what I see in the design of the Frantic. With that core,  it may be one of the more controllable medium-light to medium balls with a solid/pearl coverstock.

With the way the houses are here in NJ anymore, its hard to find a ball that can handle lower volumes of oil without jumping off the spot too hard or just quiting on the backend all together. This could be a huge contender to go below my Nomad Pearl when the lanes are jumping too much for that and my Tropical Heat Pearl and I need to tame the conditions without completely chasing the oil and moving out of my comfort zone.

Norm,

I wonder if the Riot wouldn't be a better ball for that rather than the Shooting Star.
I say that because the core seems milder: high RG and lower differential, with the same coverstock.
Because the Rising Star (polished combination) has so much more backend than the Dark Star (polished pearl), that Neutron Core must promote more bite in the backend.
So I assume the Riot with the same drilling as the SS would go longer and have less backend.

I agree with Charlest on the Riot. The Rising Star sanded is a much stronger and earlier rolling ball than the Riot, even moreso than the numbers would dictate. Maybe it has to do with turning the core upside down. WIth that being said, I am looking forward to the shooting star as well.

I totally agree with the Shooting Star, I was replying to your part about the Frantic before, my bad. I have a 2Furious and its a LOT of ball for the price point. I have a Mission and Rogue Cell and I find that this ball covers more boards and digs into heavier oil much better, with a weaker layout at that. I The numbers look like it might go a little longer than the 2Furious, but I expect it to be a very strong ball at this price point.

I wonder how much less of a ball this would be compared to an Outlaw. The Roto Grip site doesn't have the Shooting Star on their ball comparison list yet.

Norm,

Between the Outlaw, the 2Furious and the Shooting Star, there might be a good deal of overlap, but I'll leave the "might" in there until I see at least someone throwing 2 of those on the same day.

In fact, when I saw the SS on the RG web site this afternoon, I was wondering why they had not discontinued the Riot. While the Riot does seem to be the weaker ball, I wonder if it's even a 1/2 step below the SS.RG better make a mild ball or two to get some foundation for lighter oil in their arsenal structure. (Of course, a polished Riot would start to fill that gap nicely.)

three balls in particular are still in the line up this season because distributors still have some stock on them. riots, clear crowns, and mutant cell pearls. these three balls aren`t discontinued and will still be supported through the catalogue year but most distributors are selling them at a reduced price.

Now that there is no pearl ball in that line... When will they be releasing a new pearl? I would have thought they would release both together but I guess not...

Because a polished pearl and a polished solid of the same coverstock composition never produce the same ball reaction.
