Comparison between the Defiant and Mutant Cell

I haven't been here for a while so this might already has been talked about.  I pulled out my Mutant Cell and drilled a Defiant.  I have made a comparison but would like to hear others.

 No comparison, Defiant is a very special ball. Mutant Cell was just another ball.

I have both and to me the Defiant is stronger and not as condition specific. It seems I can throw the the Defiant on anything from med w carrydown to heavy. For me the Mutant seemed to die too soon.. Hope this helps.

No question, the Defiant is probably one of the best balls RG has come out with in a long time.  Compared to the Mutant Cell (and even it's cousin the Virtual Gravity Nano), the Defiant is more versatile with drilling, stores energy better, accepts surface changes better, and can use it on a wider range of conditions.   It's truly a great ball.

A few years back on my way to Nationals in Reno Raider h2o boy drilled the Mutant for me and at his center that ball struck from anywhere.  The ball did die early however and I put it away for the last couple of years.
 
 About 15 weeks into our league season the bowling center manager said the shot was too easy and changed the shot to a very long, wide and heavy oil pattern.  Averages came down quick.  But in a short time he noticed that there were way too many out of ranges from the pins sliding and not falling and way too many balls stuck in the back. He contributed that to the amount of oil he was using on the lanes.  So he modified the pattern a little shorter, not as wide (7-7) and slightly less oil.  Thats where we are today.
 
So I pulled out the old Mutant Cell and I have been killing the shot playing anywhere from 6 out.  The ball still doesn't hold up long and I really clean it well and then use 2000 Ablaron by hand and its ready to go the next league.
 
So I decided to drill the Defiant.  Let me start off with that the Defiant is a great ball.  The Defiant doesn't seem to turn the corner as hard as the Mutant, handle the heavier oil as well as the Mutant and doesn't carry as well as the Mutant.  But in all fairness, I'm just starting with the Defiant and I can see that it has a lot of potential.

No disrespect, but you seem to always have issues or less than desirable results with balls that are ”homeruns” & fair well with balls that are not real popular. Maybe its a matchup issue, i dont know. But the Defiant is far more superior to the Mutant Cell in almost every conceivable way.

Northface,
 
I'm sorry if you got the impression that I wasn't talking kindly about the Defiant.  I only shot one full game with the Defiant and it was a 267, stoned a 8 pin wraped a 10 pin.  I also threw it as a fill ball in the 10th frame both being strikes.
 
I am just trying to get opinions about the two balls and see if they can be a good combo with the Grand Illusion or if the Mutant and Defiant would over lap.  There is no way I was trying to hint that the Defiant was an inferior ball or post a review. 
 
I do agree though in years past, I did not match up with some very popular bowling balls.

 If the Mutant Cell works for you, by all means, continue to use it. In theory, the two should overlap, but in actual application thats not always the case.

Thank you for the response Northface.  I heard the Defiant was similar to the Cell and the selling point on the Mutant was that the Mutant was more angular.  This next statement will make your point.  I never matched up with the Cell.  Three different Cells three different drillings and coverstock changes.  So your point is well taken.  But I will throw the Defiant again and looking forward to success.

I can't remember how Nicanor describes his roll!  But I can understand how one could be a little perplexed with a Cell.

 

I have two lefty drilled ones the original and the Rogue.  I have a LOT of side roll and am very aware of how drilling changes can make these balls dramatically different roll shape and playability.

 

My cell pin under and outside ring and mass bias strong.  Very Very smooth with the famous Cell walk up backend.  Barely has enough hit to carry but I have a lot of nice games with it!   Not many low ones!

 

My Rogue pin over ring about 3/4 of an inch and mass bias same place.  Needs the whole lane to play, many a shot 17 to 1 have carried.  So much recovery so much hit  dramatically big games without much accuracy(as I tend to try to overthrow it to keep it in the house!).

Many low games as any pull waves bye bye to brooklyn as it crashes into the beautiful 3 6 pocket!

 

I've got to tame this bad boy down.  2 inches up down in pin position(near same pin to PAP) turns these babies from kitten to Uncontrolled panther!  I've got an idea!  I Have a righty rogue cell that I have had thrown for me  pin next to ring(much more even than pin above but stronger than my pin down....)
