Cell-then what?
« on: January 12, 2008, 11:29:12 PM »
I am hoping you guys can help me out, I just can't decide.  I know I am getting a Cell, seems perfect for tournaments and tougher shots.  I am also wanting either a Mystic or an Illusion more for league shots.  The house where I bowl has wood lanes with guardian heads, pretty high friction but they do a decent job blending it in by laying down 40-42 feet of oil.  I currently throw a Neptune, Venus and a Lane Masters Big R Bang.  The Neptune is great for outside angles and the Venus is really a great all around ball for me but I want something for those nights when my ball seems to be burning off to much energy.  Something I can move way inside with and still take out the corners.  I really like what I have read about the Mystic but I am worried it will not work well with the high friction surface of the guardian so that makes me think that the Illusion will be the better ball for me.  I apologize for being so long winded.  Any info you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Ball speed-16-17
Rev Rate-380
Avis-55 degrees(Ive been told)
Hand position-can use many but prefer the cupped position

Skbowl,

Usually your gut instinct is the way to go and I think you are right on.  Illusion over Mystic due to the surface and conditions you bowl on.

Thanks,

I'd look at a Horizon pearl, given its lower r.g. it is not as prone to squirting as the Illusion sometimes does (at least in my hands). A higher pin, shiny Mystic would be good too.

Thanks for your help guys, although I am still not 100% sure which to choose.  The gravity shift and spitfire are also on my radar as well.  Good thing I have till feb. to decide.

As a person who has never rolled Roto-Grip before, the Mystic is the first ball out of my bag.

Mystic or horizon pearl i have the illusion and find it is pretty long compared to the other two. Saga would even be a good choice with a long enough pin to pap and mb placements.

If I bowled on synthetics it would be a mystic hands down! I had a Saga and liked it, even though it only had a 2 inch pin I enjoyed the reaction I got from it but like an idiot, I traded it away.  I also had a SSSE which was great at this house but I wore it out.  I really enjoyed the length I got out of that ball and the hard arc it had OOB but I never took care of it and it slowly became more of a even arc from start to finish.  Ideally, if they made a ball with the length of my neptune (pin over ring) with a nice hard arc on a medium shot I would choose that one but as it stands it sound like the illusion is as close as I am gonna get to that.

Yeah, I used an Epic for about a week at this house and it was just way to strong.  I liked the roll though, would've been a great ball on sythetics for me.
