cores and covers
« on: February 03, 2013, 05:53:49 PM »
Hi everyone. So I threw my mates shout and I loved the reaction. I have NEVER thrown a low end solid (not a ball previously in higher performance groups) with such a great reaction. It was strong off the spot but not overkill either with my high rev rate. It outhooked my lanemasters black pearl, hammer saw blade, and storm frantic. All of these were going 60 feet. Anyways, I bought a wrecker afterwards and hope I get the great hitting power and even backend and midlane motion that I saw in the shout. By the way, anyone else notice the shout/scream's core looks identical to the neutron core from the hp 2 line? Any insiders please tell me the late roll 46 is the neutron modified for less strength. Also, would anyone like to tell me the difference in cover strength between the storms r1s(reactor) vs the hp1 covers. And also hp2.vs r2s covers. Lasty, what ball can replace the critical theory?

On your question of what ball can replace the Critical Theory, Imo none - but the Defiant Soul will be close, maybe a bit stronger. I believe you can still find some C/T nib still.

The cores of the HP2 line, Wrecker, Shatter and Shooting star have what looks like the same shape as the core on the HP1 line.  Shout and Scream.

To me it looks like the the densities must be different in the flip block portion as they have very similar high low rg figures but very different differentials.  .025 for the HP1 line and more like .040 for the HP2 line.  About an inch or more flare potential from the HP2 line.

I have an old HP1 equivalent Sonic X solid(weaker listed numbers than the Shout)  I can tell you I love balls of this strength on my current house shot, and I can tell you there is a big difference in the strength of balls in the HP2 line, much stronger, but still great on medium to  lite oil.  I usually move 3 to 5 boards deeper for the HP2 line versus the HP1 line.

Agreed.  Pretty bad idea to drop the CT I'd say...

I also agree that I am sorry to see the Critical Theory retired, if there was a hall of fame for bowling balls this one would make it in on the first ballot. That is why it is so hard to try and compare it with another ball. If you really like this ball I would try to find another one.

I've never thrown a critical theory. But, I can't say I have heard ONE bad thing about this ball. It has unique traits in todays world of bowling balls. Reactive cover, dull pearl, strong differential, low/mid rg. That is a nice combination for my game. However, I would think the lucid is only slightly weaker with an earier motion but a little less overall hook.

Shout?  Stronger than the Frantic?  Really?

I am also wondering why you tried the Shout, loved it and purchased the Wrecker?

Two dramatically different balls.

My pro shop doesn't sell the hp1 line. And I was hoping for a similar backend motion with more push through the front. And yes, for me the stronger drilled shout was stronger than my weaKer drilled frantic

Wrecker for similar backend to the Shout.  Hmmm?

If my Rising Star is anything similar(I think it is).  I find a similar shape to my Sonic X solid but a lot more boards are covered(similar drillings).

My pro shop doesn't sell the hp1 line.

Then you need to find another proshop. If I went into a shop with money and ready to buy, only to have them tell me "we don't sell those here", me and my money would walk out and go elsewhere.
