Critical Theory or Lucid?
« on: March 24, 2013, 03:23:18 PM »
Hi guys.  After your help a while back, I decided on how I'm consolidating my arsenal.  The first thing is that I'm now going completely Roto Grip and Storm.  After experimenting with some EBI stuff for almost 2 years, I'm sticking with Utah.

The second thing is that I want to get a pearl to compliment my Defiant and my heavy oil hybrids.

Stats:
PAP: 4-1/4 straight across
Speed: 19-22mph
Revs: 380-420rpm
Style: Tweener (straighter/harder is my A game but can hook it)

After checking out some options, I know the Lucid is one that many are talking about.  However, I wonder if the Critical is a better choice.  The big thing I want to use this ball for is when the heavier volume starts to break down that I face on some patterns and open up the lane a little more than my hybrids while still having good motion on the backend.

Eventually, this is what I'm looking at as an arsenal:
Heavy: Defiant
          (Lucid or Critical Theory)
Rogue Cell or Infinite Theory (possibly replace both with the Defiant Soul)
Medium-Heavy: Hy-Road
Outlaw (possibly replace with the Disturbed)
                      Nomad Dagger
Medium-Light: Frantic
Current Ball Arsenal
Heavy:
MOTIV Jackal Legacy
MOTIV Mythic Jackal

Med-Heavy:
MOTIV Trident Odyssey
MOTIV Forge Fire
MOTIV Covert Revolt

Medium:
MOTIV VIP ExJ Sigma
MOTIV Sigma Sting
MOTIV Pride Solid

Medium-Light
MOTIV Venom Shock
MOTIV Tribal Fire

My CT and Lucid are two different animals..the CT is the most hook I have thrown,  and im just getting used to my Lucid..

The lucid is a bit more rolly and controllable..the CT is just more hook, more flip...both are great to have, after getting the lucid I polished mine up and now its the strongest pearl in my bag.

Id say get an edge or a clearance nano pearl (as your pearl) being that youre getting the soul..
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

I haven't thought about it that way.  That's definitely an option also.

I have 2 C/T one pin up the other down - so I am covered -- I love this ball. I would get one while you still can.

My driller still has some CT's and was offered me a great deal, so I am going to drill one up.

The Defiant Soul is not out of the question yet.  I'm just going to hold off on that for the moment.

+1 on the CT.  It is a really great ball, and handles surface changes well.  I had a Nano Pearl drilled the exact same way but it was much more condition specific.

Was not a big fan of the CT.  It was too condition specific for my taste and carry was spotty.

I think if you are getting a ct, wouldn't a defiant soul overlap too much? I'd say a nano pearl off buddiesproshop would cover your arsenal better than a defiant soul. Not that the soul isn't a good option, but I think that a virtual gravity nano pearl will give you a look you don't have.

Oh and remember the Critical Theory rolls like a hybrid with 4000 surface creating more traction and the pearl storing ridiculous amount of backend. Although I warn you. If you have a high rev rate like I do, a Critical Theory drilled to skid flip will be more so a strong continuation with a very clean front motion. Even polished mine does this.  I think the only way mine will ever roll skid flip is if I bowl on heavy oil but you already have a defiant for that. Honestly, I think the defiant soul drilled weaker might offer you the most versatility.

Defiant Soul is a great ball! Clean int he front, great midlane read and great continuation. No where near skid/flip, great ball that reads the lane perfectly and always lets me know what I need to do....easily in the top 5-10 balls I have ever owned and Ive owned a lot of them.....literally close to 60-65 over the last 20 years
