Sonic Boom - Silver Streak Pearl
« on: February 08, 2004, 11:31:58 PM »
I have a Silver Streak Pearl, drilled for a little bit of length and a nice backend reaction.  I'm looking for something that's straighter thru the heads (gets down the lane longer) and a similar, if not a teeny bit more backend reaction.  Been thinking about getting another streak pearl and drilling it longer and polishing it so as to obtain the desired reaction.  However, somebody pointed the Sonic Boom out to me and it seems like it would fit the bill as well, and be a little bit cheaper too.  Does the Sonic Boom fit the description of what I'm looking for?  Or have I been mislead?  Again, any info would be much appreciated.  Thanks much!

From what I know the Sonic Boom will go down the lane further but I cant imagine it having the same or more backend than the SSP. I have the SSP and the only ball in the Roto-Grip line that has more backend in my hands is the Apacolypse which I also have. That being said I wouldnt rule out drilling another SSP for more length. But if you will be using this ball at the ISU student center I would get something drilled to lay off on the backend.

Hmm...good point...I will be using this ball at the ISU student center, however only for a few more months as I graduate in May.  It will be mostly for when there's too much friction either in the heads OR the backend for my streak.  The reason I thought about going with the Sonic Boom was that it is weaker than the streak, definitely two different animals, entirely!  It's that difference that has intrigued me to the Boom.

Interesting. Congrats on your graduation. I think if you are trying to tackle friction in the heads and/or backends you should go with the Sonic X solid. Because for me pearls go sideways way too much if there is a lot of friction in the backend. I think a solid will even out the pattern and plus the Sonic X gets great length.

In that case then...what type of drill would you suggest for the Sonic Solid?  I'm a relatively high tracker...no clue on the PAP, and we know what type of reaction i'm looking for.  Again, much appreciation for the info guys.

My recommendation from Roger was to go with a strong drill on a weak core so it doesn't turn into a plastic ball ....

I have mine at 4x4,...it won't flip, the pearl doesn't really flip, but it's flippier than the solid.........

I also have a somewhat decent amount of hand though...would a 4x4 be too strong for the reaction I desire?

You may want to go towards a 5 inch pin then if you have hand.........Roger is the best source though.....

My opinion for ball with more backend that Silver Streak Pearl is apocalypse and drill this ball label with pin at 5" or 6".this drilling create more skid and with biggest finish.
