Wrecker layout question
« on: January 28, 2013, 12:06:48 PM »
Picking up a Wrecker this week.  My plan is to lay it out with the pin above the bridge and the cg kicked out to the right with no hole (may add one if I want to tweak the reaction).  My PAP is 4.5" right and 1/16" down.  I bowl at houses that usually hook quite a bit, especially from the outsides.  I want to use this to play straighter up the right side when fresh or moving in a little once other stuff is hooking too early.  Looking for a strong finish, but not something that is going to just jerk left when it sees friction.  Based on my PAP, this layout should be around a 5 to 5.5" (guessing) pin to PAP distance.  Any thoughts on whether this will do what I'm after?  Could be drilling as early as later today.

mogators,

Your PAP is almost exactly the same as mine, I'm a mere 4 1/2 by 1/4 down...

I have a Wrecker with the pin 6-6 1/8ish from the PAP (pin sitting above middle finger), cg (imho would be notso important but is just shy of 1" right of gripline, and the virtual PSA is at 75 degrees) this layout for me when i'm going vertical allows me to get closer to the dry, creates length just as a pin above bridge (5" from PAP) but doesn't read as early... the pin above the middle finger for me shrinks the flare on the ball, so again, for me a more versatile layout for today's equipment.

With the Wrecker i'd compare it to a Dagger, more traction but about identical. With the pin above the middle (6-6/14") i'm able to also migrate in and play fall-back as well as go around the corner when the fronts or mids lose volume.

Hope what i've mentioned helps.

Cheers

MJH, missed your post by a couple hours.  Got to my car to go home form work and the shop called and said the Wrecker was there.  Ended up going with the drilling I said which ended up being a 5.5" pin and 3" from pap to cg.  The ball had a 3.5" pin out distance.  I've drilled a couple balls in the past with this pin position and they have worked pretty well.  I had a Virtual Gravity that I put the pin in the middle finger and it seemed to be very condition specific so I never used it that much.  Can't wait to get some games on it to see how it works.  Might buy another and drill it pin under bridge if I really like it.  That is my favorite layout for a benchmark ball.  Glad to hear you compare this to a Dagger, I missed out on that one.

My wrecker is 50* 4 3/8" 30*.  Moderately strong layout for me, but the cleaner cover allows me to play up the boards or really get in and rev it up if I need to.
