I've got a used Rogue in the shop right now getting plugged up. I'm looking for it to fit above my Epic that is drilled 4 x 4 x 3.5 (Pin, MB, Buffer). That layout puts the pin below my ring finger and the MB just past my VAL. The Epic is the main ball in my arsenal. It handles moderate amounts of oil very well, has a very strong move off the spot (yes even with that MB placement) and carries the world. I'm considering doing the same thing with the Rogue but I have some concerns.
My biggest worry about going with the same layout is that I have tried this in the past on certain pieces with lousy results. I did an identical layout on an Odyssey that rolled like junk for me. I went with a slight modification on a VG (pin in ring, "weaker" MB) and it didn't do anything for me no matter the surface. I also had a Break solid that was pin under bridge with the same MB and the thing rolled wonderfully. Strong in the mids and ripped on the backend. I mentioned these 3 balls because they are all "strong" solids.
Going pin up isn't really a good option with this particular piece due to the shorter pin and my relatively large span. I was thinking of doing a pin under bridge or slightly left of it to get it to 5" to PAP and a strong MB such as 4". It would be a pin placement I don't have in my arsenal at all and never have. What do you guys think? My stats are in my profile.
