RS-P cover issues
« on: February 27, 2006, 02:33:34 AM »
Hi fellow Roto fans.  I have a question about my RS-P.  I drilled an RS-P around november, had a 4 inch pin.  Drilled this ball roughly 5 x 4 with the pin about an inch above my ring finger and CG just below the midline and a weighthole down in the thumb quadrant inside my VAL.  Ball was a killer out of the box as I could swing it and it would carry everything.  Had a couple 700's with it and 280 game.  I started to loose its reaction so I decided to clean it up with scotchbrite pads.  Started with burgandy and finished with gray.  What it did was bring a lot of the particles out the shell and you could really feel them on the surface.  Well, when I throw it now, it just seems not to grab the lane on the backends anywhere near when it was knew.  I know what has happened though.  There is too much particle now on the surface and the ball is burning up way to early.  I'd really like this ball to be for heavy oil, but I think the combination of the layout plus the surface as it is now won't be a good combination.  So I have 2 questions,  1.  Should I plug this ball and re-drill it maybe something liked stacked leverage with the pin closer to my fingers and CG below my midline with a hole low or 2.  How can I bring the surface back to what I was OOB so I can get the original reaction out of it.  I believe if I dull it to 1000 that might help and maybe a touch of polish would help.  I need some opinions.  Thanx guys.

Have you concidered taking it in to a pro shop and having them put it on a Haus Machine and doing a total re-surface? That's what I'd do and then test it out for surface adjustments like polish.

I pretty much run the pro shop and drill all my own equipment plus resurface my stuff.  Tell you the truth, I think I can do a better job by hand then that Haus Machine, but thats my opinion.

Ryna, I was thinking about cutting this ball up to 800 and then put a like coat of Magic shine on it and see how it works that way and maybe putting a bigger weighthole in it as well to let it rev up harder.  I just punched up an Epic that I have to dull down a little bit from the box finish to see if it can handle more oil, its a little shined up right now from the lane oil but I really want my RS-P for heavy oil when needed. Thanx for the advice.  I will report in a couple weeks. Thanx.
