Upon much advice and too much time in the gym this year, I have decided to change my arsenal going back to 16#'s after the 15# experiment.  No matter what i did my ball speed was just too inconsistent.   So i decided to build an new 2 ball arsenal for starters and throw in my plastic.    

Benchamrk - Horizon Solid
Medium/Light - Venus

I have heard rumblings that the RSX might be another good starting point....

Rumors have it that the new Horizon solid is rather strong...almost like a mid-priced Epic...so you might want to keep that in mind while drilling it...

I think that if you had a moderately drilled (something like 4.5 x 3.5) Horizon Solid, with a little polish, and then the Venus you might have something.

If you are going to only have a two/three ball arsenal, consider the oil conditions that you run into the most -- if they are lighter, the Horizon Solid could be too much ball (not that any of us really know what it's like).  If that is the case, the pearl Horizon might be a good option.

That combination will give you the ability to handle almost any condition you run across.  The only thing that might give you trouble is an extreme flood, but you don't see that very often anymore and the HS will probably be strong enough to allow you to keep the ball in play and make easy spares.   I haven't thrown a HS (yet) so I don't know how strong it really is.

Thanks for the help.   I had a pretty crazy arsenal before, 6 balls to be exact.   At most I am not going no more than 3 balls and 1 plastic for spares! Its all about making quality shots!   CHawk, your absolutely correct, keep the ball in play for the heavy stuff and make spares.   Less is more is my philosophy now.

Glad I could help.  I'm still in the realm where I take 5-6 strike balls and a spare ball with me because the house changes oil patterns on us 2 or 3 times a season. The other thing is part of the fun of bowling for me is drilling up different balls to see what they do.   I'd start with those two and find out if you need a 3rd and what you'd need it for.  If you need something between the 2, I'd probably go with the Horizon Pearl or Epic Saga.  If you need a ball for the heavier stuff, I'd probably go with an Epic Battle. If you find you need a ball for dryer lanes, I'd probably go with a Mercury.  Best of luck.

Drilled three solids today for three different customers. one polished, one box finish and another with a hit of 2000 wet sand. this ball is everything to everyone. a silver streak original black with polish and weaker drill, a Vortex 2 black with pop in the backend, and an RSX, with polish and stronger drill.

we have 20 of these instock and i don't see i am going to have them for long...

Well since the Bears were not playing yesterday I ordered the Horizon line, the solid and pearl.  Cannot wait to have them punched, going to go with a length drilling on the pearl and a aggressive drilling I think with the solid to start.
