Compare the Planets Line?
« on: October 10, 2006, 01:58:55 AM »
Could someone compare the different balls from the Planets line? I am looking at getting two of them for a high track, high rev, 16 mph at pins no thumb to go along with an XXXL. I was looking at the Mercury and Saturn but wanted to see what the Venus was like compared to the other two.

Thanks,
kalannar

Mercury is long but not as strong as the Venus
The Venus is long and strong ( I do believe the strongest of the 3)
The Saturn is smoothest and not as long as the other two.

I have owned a lot of high dollar balls but I can tell you this the Saturn is the best ball I have ever owned and it is also the cheapest. If you get one you will not regret it its a great ball

Thanks for the replies. I just ordered the Saturn last night. I plan on getting a Mercury later on this year.

I really like the Venus as well.  It's the ball I use when my more aggressive equipment burns up too early.  It's got a pretty strong arc of the spot and when they're really burnt, I can take my hand out of it and throw it harder and not lose carry.  This is the ball I've used most in league so far this season.

I see that you have a Tsunami. How would you compare the Venus to the Tsunami. The Tsunami is what I am throwing right now. Mine can be very arcy or it can snap depending on how I throw it right now (no thumb) either a lot of side rotation or more up the back. But it isn't exactly drilled for a no thumb release (Pin below and right of the ring finger and the cg kicked right Mb right of thumb by 3")

Thanks,
Mike

My Tsunami is drilled 1:30 label and the Venus is drilled pin under the ring finger and the CG kicked out a little bit.  That being said, the Tsunami revs up a little earlier and rolls a little sooner that the Venus does, but the overall hook isn't much different for me until I put more side roll on the ball.  The Venus responds better to forward roll than side roll and when they burn up more, I can flatten my hand out and throw it harder with great success.  I can do that with the Tsunami too, but it usually rolls a little too early and I have trouble keeping it off the nose.  Conversely, with the  Tsunami I can go deeper with more axis rotation with better success than the Venus.  I think that's because of the drill and the fact that the Tsunami has a lower RG core than the Venus.  I hope this helps.

My Tsunami is drilled more like your Venus and I would be looking at drilling the Venus like your Tsunami. I already have the Saturn ordered with a drilling of the pin way right of the ring finger and cg in the grip area and am trying to decide between the Venus and the Mercury to go under it. I plan on getting an XXXL or Crystal Buzzsaw for the really dry stuff with my revs and another Tsunami, possibly in 14lbs, for heavier oil with the shine taken off and a stronger drill for my release (very high track). I guess I'll have to wait and see how the Saturn goes for me and decide from there. According to RG reaction chart, there is a greater difference in reaction between the Saturn and Mercury than there is between the Saturn and Venus.

Thanks,
Mike

There would be a greater difference between the Saturn and Mercury because the Mercury has a pearl coverstock and the Venus is pearl particle.  Sounds like you have a good plan, best of luck.
