am i crazy or what
« on: April 13, 2007, 08:28:04 AM »
as much as i have complained about my battle i just bought another one. bollingball.com has a special right now and you can get a battle pro cg for 99.00 and a 16 pounder for 74 with free shipping. I couldnt resist. I am going to drill this one pin under bridge and let the chips fall where the may. My epic is drilled with the pin just right of bridge and it is a very decent ball. I am hoping that this drill will give me the backend i had been missing on the other three drilling attempts. the last was with the pin about 3 inches from my pap and 4 inches up and it really wasnt what i wanted never found a use for it.Just tossed it this week since it was cracked. Any drill suggestions are appreciated, thanx, wish me luck.

Generally speaking, a pin under bridge drilling won't give you backend.  Why not put the pin over ring, or over the bridge?  Also, what is your PAP?

Ordering a pro CG will limit to all the drills you will be able to do. Having a 5-7 in. Pin - may not be what your looking for when you are trying to go pin under, which would mean the cg is past your thumb, and mass bias is almost on the opposite side of the ball.

i just got the pro cg battle and here is what it looks like. the pin in 8 inches from the mb and 4.5 inches from the cg. the cg is 3 inches right of the pin and rg center line. I am thinking of a pin over ring drill with the rg an inch or 2 right of thumb. What i am wanting is a ball that will be able to negotiate med to heavy patterns but will have decent backend. my other battle seemed to burn up . I never really saw a pattern i could use it on .it was setup with the pin above finger line and 3.5 inches from pap. Every now and then i would get a decent game out of it but all in all we didnt match up well. So what i am hoping is this will delay the balls reaction and coserve that energy for the backend giving me a ball i can play on a variety of shots from med to heavy oil.I am a strocker with lower ball speed and med to high track. I presently have a no  mercy that is set up like this and it has pretty good back end with out roll out.

I thought the 6 3/4" rule only applied to symmetric core balls - and that an asymmetric's MB could be a different distance from the pin?

***Edit*** I've been educated on the subject - the MB should always be 6 3/4" from the pin regardless of core.  Thanks RotoDave for setting me straight.

well i got the pro cg battle drilled pin just right of ring and up about an inch and a half. Its no hook monster ,but it aint half bad. I think it matches up with my game much better than it did before. It has more lenght and pin crushing backend. At least with this drill i can get a read on the lanes and find a line to the pocket.
Its also more versatile. I havent had any real oil to play in yet ,but i have had pretty fresh house shots that were no gimme. I have been able to play up the boards and swing a bit with good success. I think it and my no mercy are pretty close and the drills are pretty close to . The no mercy may have a bit more surface on it maybe 600 dull where the battle is at 800 matte. They are so close they over lap. The no mercy likes more hand around it and the battle responds more with hand up the back, might be a lane condition thing, maybe with more oil i will have to get around the battle. All in all it looks like the ball i wanted when i first got one.
Lesson for me, stronger balls work better with the pin closer to the ring with my low speed and high track. They dont burn up and there is much more energy at the pin deck where u need it.
