Experiments with the Skids cover?
« on: February 09, 2015, 01:59:43 PM »
Has anyone changed the cover on thier Skid? If so what have you done. I am debating to take off some of the shine, going to far before the turn for me lately. :-\

If the ball is going too far before turning, then change the cover.  Whether or not someone else has success or not doing so shouldn't prevent you from changing the surface.  Start with small changes and fine tune as needed.

Hit with a worn 2000 abralon pad by hand. I NEVER keep shiny balls at OOB. You'll be hard pressed to replicate that finish anyway. So just break the cover in the beginning.

Mines very over under currently... But the house is putting out a tough shot that they're clueless with also.  I'm just breaking mine in, besides my team already won the first half!

Hey bill how did you drill the skid?  I currently have one sitting here but haven't drilled it yet.   I usually put the same layout on most of my balls which is 60 4 3/4 40

I used a worn 800 pad on mine to take the shine off. Hit all 6 sides for 10 seconds; nothing drastic. It definitely gave me more control.

Now I just have to practice which release gives me optimal use on a house shot. When I first bought it I was only able to swing the shot from about 25 or deeper. I am now able to hold pocket standing at 15 with a hand release adjustment.

Good advice!  This is a good habit to get into and gives you a good clue as to future cover adjustments.  I'm a fan of the used 2000 abralon pad.   :)

I dont have any abralon pads. Will scotch brite pads be ok?

I'm sure they will, I'm not sure as to what pad will be a specific grit but I'm sure they'll work.  charlest would likely be your man for the chart on how the Scotch Brite pads rank (as far as grit).
