Favorite Cell layouts?
« on: May 30, 2008, 06:18:07 AM »
Finally got my first RotoGrip, a Cell, to drill and was wondering what everybodys favorite layout is. I'm looking more for this to be a medium ball and use surface changes to get the reaction I want. My pap is 5 3/8 x 0, average revs. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I don't know the exact numbers, but I'd estimate that my pin to PAP distance on my Cell is around 5.75" or 6", just underneath the middle finger.  CG on the midline, MB around 3 inches from the PAP.  I absolutely love this drill.  It's ideal for smoothing out the over/under on a house shot, and gives me good control on the PBA patterns.

Say Dan, that sounds like it's getting close to a Rico drill. I've got a Storm Jolt with a Rico on it that has a nice smooth arc to the pocket.

Not really.  I've got a Rico drill Storm Eraser Banshee that I very rarely use, even with the pearl surface it's still much smoother than the Cell.  While the pin is under the fingers, it's still not even close to my grip center.  Plus the pin is actually further away from my axis point than if I had it at grip center.  Also, there is no x-hole, unlike a Rico drill.  So basically I get a little more length but a stronger backend motion than I would with a Rico kind of layout.

After looking at the Roto drill guide, I think I've settled in on a 5 x 3 with a 2 1/2 pin buffer. I was at a 3" pin buffer but it put the fingerhole too close to the pin. I may put this at 4000 abralon to start with but I can't wait to drill this and see what everyone's raving about.

Moon,

I have my 2nd Cell drilled 5 x 3 with the pin 4-1/2" above midline, 2000 Abralon.  I think you will like this layout, it is very smooth and controllable, with plenty of pop at the pin deck.
