cell vs. odyssey
« on: January 20, 2008, 01:14:16 PM »
I have an epic odyssey at box finish (pin under middle, MB on my VAL) which I have had success with in the past. My question is, if I get the Cell, will there be a large enough difference between the two to have both in my arsenal?  If so, what will the difference be between the two and what drill/surface would you suggest?  All of my information is in my profile.  Thank you for all imput.

The shape is completely different. and there are about 5,000 reasons to get a cell. First being carry.

The Cell will be earlier and stronger than the Odyssey but when lined up with both of them on the same shot you will be about 2-3 boards right with your feet with the cell. The Cell handles more oil than the Odyssey but doesn't do it by crossing more boards. Overall the Cell is very smooth throughout the hole lane.

In my opinion There won't be that much difference in where your standing but the overall reaction shape will be completely different.

Using the info in your profile and depending on the type of volume you intend to be using it on, I would lay it out either 4-1/2 to 5" from your axis at 45 Deg. from your V.A.L. depending on the type of volume you intend to be using it on and place the MB at a 60 degree angle. Then I would go out and  throw both of them  and make surface adjustments from there if they are too similar.

I don't see any reason why this ball won't be one of the best selling of the year, Especially at the price point it is at. I has the ability to be this years Black Widow in terms of sales

What makes it SO different.

The core looks SIMILAR.  Specs not that far off.  Mass bias...similar?

What is it...cover?  Core?

I read in Shlemmer comments re Brian Leclair from the tour....sounds different...but WHY?

Core?  Cover?

Lucky,

It is a combination of both.  I believe Mike from Coast to Coast went to our LV seminar, so he has some good insight about what he is talking about.

The new coverstock we are using is a longer lasting cover that actually absorbs less oil.  The key to that statement is the fact that we didn't lose any friction down the lane, we actually increased friction by 10%.

The core may look symmetrical to most, but it actually creates a higher split between the y and z axis (0.018).  It also has a deceptively fast spin time of 5 seconds.  Most balls at that amount of intermediate differential don't spin up to the psa that fast.

When the core and cover work together so well, like in the case of the Cell, you get an all around great ball.  It works well even as the lanes breakdown and the ball doesn't quit.

Thanks,
