OK Rotogrip fans, I would like your opinions on how to layout the new RSP for a flip drilling. My stats: lefty, PAP 5 1/2 X 1/2 up, medium speed (15-16mph), 3/4 roller, high track, I can vary hand/wrist/speed (yes, axis tilt and rotation)as required. I've got an SS Pearl drilled with the pin just left and under my ring finger, and the CG kicked out about 1/2 inch. Probably equates to a 4 X 3 1/2 drill. This is a great ball and layout for me on a THS. I'm looking for a sharper backend reaction on the RSP for tournament conditions (PBA). I really struggled with deciding between the RS1 and the RSP, especially because I have not had much success with particles in the past. However, I think that the RS1 would have been too much like my SS Pearl, so I'm going with the RSP. And since this is a pearl, I think that there's a few more options available for this ball. Thanks for your time!

My first thought is that you might be overlooking the RSX. I think the reaction you would be looking for would better fit the make up of the RSX. Solid reactive with a shiny cover to get down the lane easily great solid coverstock that will definitely read the dry.
I am a lefty like yourself and I have a 4 x 4 that is absolutely great when I need a stronger move at the breakpoint. I have an RSP drilled the same way but in box condition and have found it to be a great compliment to the RSX when the fronts are too soupy. You can do a strong flip type drilling in the RSP but then I would recommend you polish it otherwise the particle will mitigate some of the flip. Yes I think you might find the RS1 too close to your SS Pearl.

rotomike, thanks for your reply. Yes, I agree with you on polishing the RSP to maximize the later reaction of this great core design. Mike, my question is, do you think that a stacked 4 X 4 drilling on the RSP, combined with a light polish, would qualify as a strong flip drilling for this ball? Thank you again for your time!

sunsetlefty,
I think you might be overlooking some basics about the RS-P. With respect to your SSpearl, even if it were polished to the same degree, 1500 grit, it will be earlier with more overall hook due to 2 factors: the particles and the core, which has both a lower RG plus a higher RG differential for more flare. BUT the RS-P comes sanded 800 grit dull; so I think even if you put the pin over the bridge for a 5.5" x4" drilling it would still be earlier and hook more than your SSP.
If you wanted a flippier version of the SSP, I think the RS-1 would be the way to go. Put the pin up high, like over the ring finger or maybe even a little further, over the center of the bridge. Kick the CG (& MB) out, about 2-2.5" from grip center, which would make about a 5.5"x 3" drilling. Add a weight hole out about 6" from grip center thru the CG (get a 3 - 3.5" pin to CG ball) just past your VAL. Due to having the same core as the RS-P and RS-X, I think this ball would flip more than the SSP. This is definitely an inside line, open the lanes up type of drilling for a bowler with decent revs.
If you have any doubt about your revs, then try this drilling with the RS-P, but you should polish it up first to about the gloss of your SSPearl. The RS-P will handle more oil than the RS-1, even polished to the same degree because of the particles

I think the particles in the cover might not make the ball as flippy as you would like.
I still lean towards the RSX. Another advantage for the RSX is that the cover can be tweaked a bit more and will give you a bit more versatility than the RSP.
I really like the strong continuation of the RSP but I have certainly found the RSX to be a bit stronger off of the spot.
I agree in principle with charlest with the exception that I have found that the RS-1 (I currently have 2) and my SS Pearl were rather close in reaction and since you already have the SS Pearl, I think you would benefit more form the RSP or RSX. You can get a bit deeper with the RSX than you can with the RS-1.

Thanks to both Mike and charlest for responding.
Since I already ordered the RSP, I'm going to take your advice and alter the drilling (and my expectations of this ball's reaction) a little. I think that I'll go with a 4 X 4 or 4 X 3 , pin under the ring finger, apply a light polish, and see what happens. Now I've got to decide between the RS1 and the SSse! Gary
