Grand Illusion compared to a TNV

Greetings!

I was wondering how a Grand Illusion would compare to my TNV. I currently have my TNV with a 5 X 5 (pin above bridge and MB 1 inch right of thumb) at 2000 with a touch of Snake Oil and really love the look I get with it....

How would a similiarly drilled Grand Illusion compare? It is my thought it would be pretty much the same ball....but open to options...

There's one difference that I dont know how it would affect the comparison, the Grand Illusion is a symmetrical ball and the TNV is an assymmetrical ball. If you did layout and surface prep the exact same way and compared on a fresh shot, the balls would probably be very similar to each other. I haven't been able to throw a Grand Illusion yet, so I dont know. I'd definitely take the Grand Illusion over the Total NV, but I didn't really like the Total NV and I like Storm poured balls

If I had to hazard a guess, and this is a complete guess, I'd say the Grand Illusion would roll a little heavier, but board coverage wouldn't be much different.

Based of what I've seen of my driller's TNV and the design and intent of the Grand Illusion, I think there'd be significant difference. Unless you've roughed up the cover on the TNV, it's a polished pearl resin meant for medium oil and less with a skid/flip reaction. The solid resin GI is meant for medium oil and above, despite its polished coverstock. Haven't seen any tests yet, but I'd have to assume since it's meant to fit above the Illusion and the Illusion itself is comparable to the TNV, that the GI will be an arc-ier type of reaction.

Basically, I've already put my basic idea in words above: the Illusion is the RG's equivalent to the TNV, and the GI is meant to fit above the Illusion in ball path and oil hanlding.

I'd say you're close, but don't underestimate the strength of the coverstock on the Total NV.  It's pearl, but that's a very strong pearl.  If you knock the polish off it, it's actually deceptively strong and can handle medium-heavy conditions easily.  Carrydown can be an issue, but if you have some friction on the back, it's definately able to handle some heavier volumes of oil up front.  But the difference is still the same:  the Grand Illusion should be smoother and handle more oil

Greetings and thank you for the inputs!

My TNV is at 2000 Abralon and it is really a smooth but strong ball that handles med-heavy to med for me without problem.  My Xception drilled exactly the same is much more jumpy for me when it hits friction.  

I was trying to find a spot for the Grand Illusion in my arsenal, but with the Pluto and the TNV for the mediums......I don't see where I would fit it...

Oh yeah...how is this for my tourney arsenal??...Since I have you as a somewhat captured audience...

1) Cell - 5 X 3 OOB (2000 Abralon)
2) Mystic - 4 X 4 OOB (think 2000 Polished?)
3) Pluto - Label Leverage OOB (2000 Abralon)
4) TNV - 5 X 5 (2000 Abralon with Snake Oil)
5) Rapid Fire - 5 X 5 OOB (1500 Polished)
6) Illusion - 50 Degree x 5in by 50 Degree OOB (1500 Polished)
7) Spare Ball - Hammer Tuff...
