I picked up an Odyssey last week to go above my Epic. I love my Epic so I went with an identical layout (pin under ring 5" to PAP, 50 degree MB). The only difference was where the x-hole went. They are both "low", but on the Odyssey it is a bit lower to remove the excess thumb weight. I can provide pics of both layouts if it would help.
I have always kept the Epic at 800, and tried the Odyssey at OOB. I will say that it did not look like 2000, more like 1000 or a tad duller. Compared to the Epic, it read the lane about 4 feet sooner and made a very abrupt move. It was not terribly angular. Now I know that I will rarely need that much more ball, so I took it to 4000 Abralon. After this change it got length equal to the Epic, but it became very unpredictable. It would squirt past the breakpoint if I got a pinch fast or didn't catch all of it. When the midlane oil started to go, it read it right away and was DOA from burning up. I know that from tinkering a bit with the original that it is quite sensitive to cover changes. OOB on the Odyssey was too much for me, but the 4000 gives me a different problem. I have no problems with messing with the surface, but I'm at a loss as to what to try and am looking for suggestions. I was thinking of 2000 first, even though I know that's what it's supposed to be OOB. After that, maybe a low grit sand and polish? Rough Buff? I would probably sell it before redrilling it. Any suggestions?
