SuperSonic + Dry conditions
« on: December 31, 2006, 03:58:56 AM »
I have a RG SuperSonic, 15lb3oz, tw 2.06oz, pin 2.5in drilled pin below ring finger, cg 1.25in below and to the right of center of grip, xhole 3.5in right of thumbhole. I have this condition at my THS that after the 3rd game the lanes get really difficult even for this ball (I begin with my med oil balls and then I switch to my SuperSonic). Can't put the ball in the pocket.

I'm planning to plug this ball and the question is how should I drill it for this kind of condition? I really don't want to buy a new ball cause I chose this one for dry and spares but last Friday I went first 3 games=543 (missing 5 easy spares), last 3=450.

Profile: med revs-speed-track, can play everywhere but comfort zone is standing between 17 to 25.

Thank you in advance.
Sorry, Happy New Year to all.

I've got a Sonic Boom I use for that type of condition.  I've got the pin just above the bridge, with the cg right in center of grip.  I'm a medium tracker.  PAP about 3-7/8" over and 3/4" up, usually about 17mph on release with medium-high revs.  I usually throw this ball with about a 60 degree axis rotation.

These two balls are pretty similar, so I think I can give you a decent prediction as to what you'd see from this layout.  I've been getting a good clean move through the heads, with a small read in the mids.  The lanes I'm on usually have only small to moderate amounts of carrydown, so I see a pronounced and continuous move off the breakpoint.  It's not quite a snap, more of a sharp arc because the pin isn't very far above the bridge.

I'm usually bowling on wood lanes, but I see a fairly similar look on synthetics.  It is a little bit smoother on synthetics, though.

The Super Sonic is deceptively strong.  The cover is very grabby and with a diff in the .030 range it can torque up a bit for a lower end ball.  It's definately a medium oil transition type of ball.  If you have a rev rate low enough to where your ball will not see normal "track burn" in the heads, then you might be able to go with a pin high 5.5" to PAP drill and be alright for drier conditions.  Beware, with that type of drill, if you have a lower revrate, you may sacrifice hitting power if there's any oil down the lane.
